What’s wrong with giving people access to watches they want? If you own an old one, great. Omega doesn’t owe you investment value on your watch.

Just bummed the 55 sets are gone (^_^ 😉

As a matter of fact 55 sets in proportion to 130 mln Japanese is almost .... well zero. Just creating perhaps a Japanese Wizi bizi circle of Omega fans?

Gosh, relax everybody.
Omega decides which watches they want to sell. Unless you are a shareholder they owe you no explanation.
And we decide what we buy with our money.

I do not really see where the outrage comes from, unless you bet your familiy’s survival on a prior LE.

There might be a few backing out of limited editions like ultraman now and I wouldn't blame them. Greeeeeeedy gits putting all them out.

The thought has crossed my mind.

Why then are limited edition Speedmasters on straps about $1500-2000 more expensive than a standard one on a bracelet? Why do we pay extra for them? Because they're limited and cool, and we want to know that we have something a little extra special. Monetary / investment value is secondary; it's just not as cool knowing that there will be more of them pumped into the market later on. Maybe it wouldn't be so disappointing if the LE cost the same as a standard Speedmaster, or if the re-releases of previous limited editions were limited to the 55 box sets thus not doubling the number of Gemini IVs and Apollo XV 35ths or adding half again as many pandas as were already out there.

Despite the crazy number of LE Speedmasters we get each year now I was still excited to see what was in store for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing next year.... now, I know that no matter how cool it is, I can always wait a couple years until Omega retreads it and doubles the numbers out there, and I can buy one not for full MSRP but at depreciated secondary market price

I was pretty excited for the 50th anniversary release(s) next year as well - it's my 50th birthday next year too and I was excited to maybe get a watch with 1969-2019 on it. But after seeing the Olympic watches (which to be fair, I like the blue one and the panda one, even though I have the Gemini IV) it's kind of soured me on the Ultraman. What's the point of an LE if they just re-release it later?

One thing we are missing is that they have not re-released the Gemini 4 etc, they have simply made some some changes albeit subtle, therefore they can call it another limited edition even if it does look like the Gemini 4 etc.

You can’t predict the future. Yes there’s a glut of LE Speedmasters now but they could stop the flow all of a sudden and then what?

Get what you can, when you can

i am not missing this. and i really have no issue with another blue dial speedmaster. its just sad they are literally re-badging existing LEs with minor tweaks and making them new LEs in order to sell a few more watches. there are a lot of LEs i haven't bought and don't like but i will say for the most part they broke new design ground when they came out, some for better some for worse. this is just lazy. . .

Wow that is similar...

At the risk of upsetting a few people, the Gemini IV was never quite perfect for me, it's amazing how much difference some small refinements(elongated markers, slight change to text and logo position and red tip chrono seconds) can make because to my eyes that is now the Gemini IV perfected.

I guess the problem (for me anyway) is that the Speedy to be released for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing will just be another Speedy on top of the myriad of more or less limited Speedys already out there. I mean seriously, how can it be anything special.

Here are a few wrist shots if people are interested.

The red one in yellow gold will be the LE for the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing... LoL

The more I look at these, the more I'm drawn to the Black/Gold one, in fact I REALLY like it. Will have to read back through this thread now to see if we know if they will be available outside of Japan and what the UK price might be.

Let me say that just a month ago i was seriously considered spending around 10 000 eur for a Gemini IV! Mere luck!
I would suggest that in a couple of years you will be kicking yourself that you didn't.
Does anyone seriously think Gemini and Apollo LE's are going to plummet in value just because Omega releases some lookalikes?
And while I'm here, am I the only one that doesn't see a stepped dial on any of these?

Given the Swatch Groups half-year performance, I don't think you are going to see any change in the way they milk monetise the Speedmaster line. Remember, they are in the business of making money for their shareholders, and if that means putting the lucrative SE Asian market ahead of the feelings of some dedicated Speedmaster collectors, then (sadly for them perhaps) that's what they are going to do.

As far as I can discern, this is being done for sound (or at least credible) business reasons, not simply to piss off owners of previous SEs and LEs.
