For me, i see the tokyo speedies as the cure to my addiction. Hopefully, if i get them, my speedy fix gets fixed. And am done and over with it.

Well, except for the 50th Anniversary moon landing. Then you’re done

Hmmm. OK.

What could it be based on?

I like the red and green one. But still don’t get the link between Olympia and Speedmaster (next year is 50th anniversary of moonlanding?!).
What is the explanation of the product manager to copie young LEs? No more ideas? Is snoopy with a dot and red nose than for a sailing event ocean race 2022 the next idea for a LE? I love Omega and Speedmasters and new LEs, but this edition I really don’t understand from a marketing and brand point of view?!

Still there is something really interesting, the @speedyjapan IG profile.

Account created by the end of 2017, they have been reposting all kind of Speedmasters and linking them to Japan.

A couple of days ago they shared my pic of LCD Speedy and Alaska Prototypes that’s how I discovered it...

It seems that this account was sharing about the new LEs first and was also very active on commenting and answering to all the comments about the new LE which brings me to wonder if this account belongs to Omega? If yes, we might have another marketing strategy / product launch here. Something we haven’t seen yet but a very good marketing idea imo and here I’d say congratulations Omega 👍
Maybe a lie, but I asked via IG and got the answer it’s a private Account

For me the link between Olympics and speedmasters didn't matter at all. I pulled the trigger because I've wanted a panda and the red bezel/gray dial is uniquely cool to my eye.

Speedmater Decades Collection. Four of the six watches are limited edition watches.

As owner of a gold Speedy on strap, I’d also like to learn where a gold bracelet can be sourced.

Speedmasters existed before the moon landing... LEs do not need to be tied into the space program. They are chronos, intended to be used for timing things like the duration of a lap on a driving track. Or maybe even laps on a running track 😁 I like that they are releasing some non-space-related LEs, such as the 60th and these.

Agree with some others about the addiction wearing off. As an owner of 3 LE Speedmasters (4 incl. Ultraman), the drive to acquire more is waning and, after the Tokyo 2020 release, I'm now having second thoughts about my Ultraman.

ST#2 coming one year after ST#1 begs the question: how frequently will they come out in the future? Hopefully not every year, IMHO they should no longer be released, it's just not going to be a novelty in Year 3+. Then, shortly after ST#2 we got 5 x LEs for Tokyo 2020 which included some significant overlaps with older LEs. Earlier this year we had the DSOTM Apollo VIII launch, not an LE as such, but still a novelty that will come out this September. Next year we'll get the Apollo XI 50th which makes perfect sense to do but with all the LEs that Omega have released in a short period of time, not only do they devalue the "LE currency", they make it harder to differentiate the new ones from the models that came before, at least in the eyes of customers.

The short term sugar high that Omega's bottom line might get from all these LEs would seem to be risking the future sustainability of the Speedmaster LE market. On the other hand, who knows, they might be milking it for all it's worth through 2019 because their view of the future beyond next year and Apollo XI is not so rosy?

I'm not sure I 'buy' into the hype! Should I encounter the chance to see them @ an AD in Japan, I'll probably just walk "by" them and look at the real LE contenders!

Ok, that's harsh, I'll still oogle over them, but I won't purchase from that selection, unless they modded the specs of the Speedys to be closer to the Seamasters.

Yes definitely, some of the boutiques have run out of the current batches. The ones I saw were mostly numbered quite low, so I'm assuming more will be coming in.

I see it more as a reminder. A reminder to stay focused and not to chase anything new.

Agree with you. Need to focus on what we actually want rather than chasing all new release.

Your re right, and they are great watches in general. No question that also all 5 watches are still super! But it finally became known as „the moonwatch“ and not as one Olympic Watch. The Key or Unique Selling Point is the Moon. Why risking such a perfect sweet spot of marketing? Here a great watch for moon, Olympia, Racing, Running etc? In marketing that doesn’t help much. Other companies and productmanagwr would kill for such a branding like Moon. I haven’t seen much Olympia ads in some Onega boutiques in the last years, when the watch became more and more in Fokus. We should ask if those 5 watches will makebit in next Moonwatch Only Book as they are Olympia?

Perhaps Omega has an extremely futuristic vision? Imagine in near future Olympic games are being held at the Dark Side of the Moon? What happens then? The series of these five watches will be shot in space and will be the most sought after LE Omega had ever made! Joking! Lousy marketing in my opinion and short term turnover and profit goals lead to such like disasters.
