Which scent from them ~ was just looking and mistakenly thought ADP was a scent when it's a brand.
Help?
It is confusing since all of their scents are named almost the same thing. You're right, Acqua di Parma is the brand, or house. The one JDubbs was talking about was their classic named simply "Colonia."

Most houses have some version of the classic cologne (citrus + florals + woods) but this one is considered one of the originals, another being 4711 by Muelhens:

With some exceptions, these all wear lightly (by design) and are meant to be refreshing, clean scents. If you want it to last all day you'll be reapplying.

@TrboDieselPwrd & @JwRosenthal ...

okay, I am waiting on a delivery of:

Hermes Bel Ami Vetiver EDT (full bottle)
&
Hermes Bel Ami EDT (sample)
Can either of you explain the difference - the package labels show a difference (one says Vetiver while the other does not) and the Vetiver is pricier.

Also, have either of you (or anyone else reading this too) tried Royal Oud by Creed? Asking because I just did and while my wife abso fυcking hates it (she called it "rebranded Old Spice" ~ heathen!) I must admit I found it very unique and unlike anything I've ever smelled (but I am a rookie so I ain't smelled much).
Bel Ami and Bel Ami Vetiver are two separate fragrances, the Vetiver being a more modern and different riff on the original. Bel Ami came first in 1986 and is a citrus/spicy leather fragrance. The OG version is has got some ooomph I'm told, but it was reformulated at some point in the last 20 years (as pretty much any classic has been that's still for sale today). I haven't tried this one personally.

Bel Ami Vetiver starts with the original and adds vetiver in the base and reworks the citrus and spice a little. I've tried this one and it's very nice; it's still a leather fragrance but it starts in an airy citrusy way, and the vetiver comes into play a bit later, smoothing out the leather and spice notes. I'll let @JwRosenthal add to this since it's one of his favorites. I think you'll probably like this one more than the OG Bel Ami.

FWIW, Bel Ami, Equipage, etc are some of Hermes' early pillar men's fragrances. The house got their start making leather goods, particularly for horse riding/equestrian related things, so these scents pay homage to that history. Things started to change in the early 2000s when the style became a little lighter and more transparent, but still really, really good IMO. The Terre, Voyage and Jardin lines all came out of this period, as did reworks and variations of some of the classics such as BAV.

Royal Oud is awesome! Say what you will of Creed lately, but I think this one is still worth it. Having Oud in the name is probably a bit confusing since it's not really an oud fragrance, more of a cedar thing plus citrus notes giving it a fresh feeling on top of the woods. There are lots of other fragrances that combine cedar/woods with spices, incense, etc but Royal Oud is pretty unique in the way it combines its freshness with that freshly sharpened pencil shavings smell. The opening can be a little...astringent? But once you get past that it's great.

I will add and reiterate, if you like the darker brooding fragrances of the 70’s-80’s more than the lighter more aquatic notes of the 00’s, buy a bottle of Chanel Antaeus- it’s probably in my top 5 of all time and it’s absolutely intoxicating. It’s one of those that anyone who comes near you stops for a second and just thinks mmmm.

If you don’t like the Hermes or Chanel, I will buy them off you.
Now time to put on the brakes!

Another vote here for Acqua di Parma’s signature scent Colonia, for Spring/Summer.

My new fav for Autumn/Winter is Dior’s Eau Sauvage Parfum (not the Johnny Depp Sausage one)

Read your post too fast on first glance, and was left thinking "Johnny Winter's fav".

Firstly, it's important to note that fragrance is a very personal thing, and what works for one person may not work for another. It's great that you're exploring different scents and trying out samples to find what you and your wife like.
Totally agree. But I hope we can we all agree that Drakkar Noir and Axe Body spray are probably two of the most vile smells on the planet.

And I do have to admit that I have a fondness for the smell of Off Deep Woods.

Also, a brand spankin' new bar of Grandpa's Soap Co pine tar soap is pretty much nirvana to the nose.

Hey @SC1, how are you finding the new Bel Ami Vetiver and Antaeus? How'd you get on with the PdM set? Hopefully you've had a chance to enjoy them.

I’ll let Scott speak to his own love affair with BAV, but I ended up buying his Antaeus off of him since he got stuck in a cloud of rose. I still have half a bottle but it’s one of my fav’s so I just bought his so he wouldn’t be stuck with it and I will have another bottle in stock.

BAV is the bee's knees, absolutely love it! But sadly, and as James points out above, the Antaeus flooded me in a cloud of rose my olfactories could not escape so off East it traveled.

Yes, Carlisle and Herod are amazing and on my ever-increasing "To Buy" list. Wanted to love Greenley but apparently it wasn't meant to be -- Layton got adopted by my wife and the others (names escaping me currently) while nice only stayed Nice not Amazing.

Have ordered and am waiting on bottles of Equipage, Eau Sauvage EDP and Amouage Opus XIII Silver Oud (that one's gonna hurt if it isn't love).

I don’t know the name of wtf I wear I thought it smelled good in the store but ever since I got it I have had three people ask me if I’m drinking. Never once a “hey the smells good” I’m torn between slathering more on or getting something different.

This actually made me laugh out loud.

The prolific use of hand sanitizer lately reminded me of the morning after smell people get who drank too much vodka the night before. People who say vodka doesn’t have a smell drink vodka.
