Who said I quit stripping? (good thing the sherrif is no longer around to put this phrase under my avatar)
The Sheriff is still around, but he retired. Turned in his badge and firearm.
..... and yes, you would have absolutely ended up with some kind of avatar message relating to stripping. 馃槈
Forgive me father for I have sinned... today I crossed the line. Today I become a watch collector.
Today I retrieved an old watch that took almost a year to repair, I picked up a watch I bought on Sunday evening and it appears as though it might still have the original bracelet (in either case I believe it to be unpolished) and...
As many of you know by now my brand of choice in the watch world is Universal Geneve. Within this brand I had decided to concentrate on simple time only mechanical watches for several reasons : they are readily available, there's a large variety, they fit my wrist better, etc.
This watch was also offered to me by my watchmaker. At the beginning of November, I phoned my watchmaker to see how progress was going on the service of the IWC and Polerouter posted above. He usually does my watches withing a month and it had been about three months for these two. He was in a particularly good mood when I phoned and he said: "Why don't you drop by the shop this afternoon, I found a Universal Geneve in my things and you might be interested." I wasn't going to say no. Just before I hung up he added: "Oh yeah, it's a Diapason (Tuning fork) so not sure it will interest you."
This watch is not for everyone but I wasn't going to refuse a NOS Universal Geneve with tags and original strap. Like the Zodiac posted above, it will add some colour to my collection.
Behind door number 2 :
A NOS Universal Geneve Unisonic "Buzzsaw" dial.
The serial number is 2829884 dating it later than 1967 and I believe these were made until the mid 70s.
Ref. 852101 in blue. I have seen some with grey dials but no many with the blue dials.
Cal. 2-51 or Accutron cal. 2180F
Originally sold for 525chf

Hopefully I didn't build this up too much...
So it was a great day!

My first thought was it is the letters H A U L
HAU is a common abbreviation in German for Herren Armband Uhr (Mans Wrist Watch). If it could be that, then perhaps the L could be for leder (leather). It doesn't seem likely, but you did ask for ideas !
