You're looking to possibly buy a €20K watch based on the opinions of a bunch of strangers on a forum? I'd respectfully suggest that if you're considering buying an old watch at this price poiunt you need to do a lot of your own due diligence....I mean you say yourself you don't even know if this model is good or not!

Fair enough, but as a newbie I wouldn't suggest you go after this type of watch. Don't jump in to the deep end of the pool.

Do some research on the reference and market value, eg using auction sales.

i am confused. normally in this forum all you guys weigh in on if the dial looks OG or if the watch looks recut. the advise of: do your own work makes me laugh. i am doing work by asking people with greater knowledge than i have!

maybe the information value in you all NOT weighing in is the actual information! as in what's unsaid is what's being said (don't touch this watch!)

as an example, there is a thread about dealers to avoid. so one question is -- has anyone dealt with this dealer? that would be helpful for instance.

at the same time you guys are just lecturing me to not ask a forum for help, there is another thread right now asking about an omega and one forum member responded:

It might be legit, Omega did make quartz Constellations in the 80s that looked something like this. I usually see them with an integrated bracelet or a strap that attaches in a different way, but who knows. Maybe real or maybe fake. Not a desirable or popular model, so not something you'll often see here on OF, but someone might recognize it.

It would help if you could show photos of the inside, the reference number will be somewhere, and we could see if it has a legit Omega movement.

The watch you are asking about is a Jaeger LeCoultre, and you will find far fewer experts on that brand here than you will Omega. Furthermore, it happens to be an uncommon reference, making it even less likely that you will find more than a small number of informed opinions.

The dealer may be legitimate, but it is never a good sign when there are no movement photos, and especially given an expensive watch. That the case back photo is not clear, is also a bad sign, as the seller may be attempting to obscure condition issues.

I also find it off-putting that a non-original (or branded) bracelet is attached, and especially given that the end-pieces are not the correct size.

Though I am not a JLC expert, I have owned a few over the years, and on the basis of the above observations above, I wouldn't buy it at half the asking price. Literally.

Just did a peruse of his other pieces, prices are definitely on the high end. FWIW.

I’m not an expert in these at all, but I do know that they are reasonably uncommon (I’m reluctant to say rare) and seem less common in steel. Personally I would not buy this from the pictures provided alone as it is easy to hide problems that only come to light once you have the watch in hand.

I know nothing about this dealer but my sense is that the price being asked is much higher (60% +) than it should be even for a dealer. If you want this specific model you probably need to find someone that can guide you through a purchase, if any vintage will do stick around, I’ve always found this forum to be a knowledgeable, helpful and friendly bunch.

@tgrslp Wow. It’s impressive to see etiquette devolve to completely just foregoing even a “Hello” by someone who literally joined today and just cutting to the chase by only posting a link. And even more abrasively expecting people to just give you information on a $20k purchase without hesitation…only for you to likely never return again.

….but not in this case, 100% agree. 😉😁

Well said and fair criticism. Sincere apologies to anyone I might have offended. 100% take the point.

The watch looks legit to me. Dial looks good. It has black wind indicator which is what an original would have.

The fact that there are no movement pictures is very concerning, as the cal. 837 movement is rare and could be replaced with a more common 817, as both would fit the case.

At that price, I would expect perfection and I don’t think that watch is perfect.

Your first purchase should not be a $20K+ watch. You are simply asking for trouble.
