Thoughts on this Skyliner

I'm considering this 1969 Seiko Skyliner 6100-8000, with 61A movement. It looks fairly clean to me. Does everything look to be correct/original, and would you say this is a nice example? Thanks!

Based on other ones I've seen of this model, it looks original to me, but I'm definitely no expert. Perhaps someone else will chime in. It appears the case was polished, but it looks pretty good. The one o'clock lug looks scored to me in the first picture maybe to get a scratch out - hard to tell what the others look like. These generally aren't tremendously expensive so this wouldn't bother me. You can wear it and enjoy it and if you get a scratch it's not the end of the world. Cool looking watch in my opinion. Good luck! (Oh, and obviously not on the bracelet that is common for these, but looks good with that strap.)

Hi there - looks all original to me, dial and hands in particular in very good order. The case... does look very clean when compared to the state of the movement (a pair bit of tarnishing and wear) so my thought would be either the case has been very lightly polished or a correct replacement movement that looks a little more worn was put in at some point.

As these are typically ~150USD, the main expense will be a service, so unless you have a timeographer print out and proof of a good service that's the main concern here.

Good luck - I'm currently on a Liner/Skyliner rabbit hole tumble myself!

I think it's a beauty. As noted, it's missing the bracelet, which could be more expensive to buy separately, so that's a consideration. Remarkable what you get for your money in vintage Seiko.

Thanks for the comments. And I'm glad someone was willing to weigh-in on the apparent condition of the movement -- that's sometimes difficult for me to gage.

Seller was asking 350 usd, which is not a lot of money, but on the high end of the range for this model. I had asked for photos or a video in natural light to get a better look at the case, as the original photos were kind of dramatic (lots of shadows). By the time seller responded, someone else had purchased it. So, too slow this time. Oh well.

That was a well presented watch probably nicely refinished. They are very common here in Japan and unless you want something perfect I wouldn’t pay more than 100USD.
Sounds silly I know, given the 6100 is basically like the 61 movement found in a GS or diver of the time minus its automatic gear.
I paid 60 for mine polished the crystal and was away, runs like a train. Looks better in the flesh too.
The bracelet is nice enough but tends to be weak and I’ve not seen many in any shape I’d bother with.

Just had these two arrive, after a delicate scrub and crystal polish they are both in fantastic condition. The date one (6102) is running at +4sec s a day, surprisingly.

Lovely examples. And the circuit board works surprisingly well as a backdrop 😉.

So much bang for your buck with a Skyliner. Easy to find one in great condition, and wears so well with the original bracelet!

I follow that seller on ebay (pictures are pretty distinctive). His prices tend to be well on the high side for anything that isn't advertised as overhauled. Skyliners are a great value - you should be able to find something comparable for quite a bit less.

Yep -- I agree with you on that.

I ended up purchasing this Lord Matic, although I still keep an eye out for Skyliners. I'm impressed how these 60s Seikos can catch the light. I suppose that's part of the grammar.

That's a great looking watch! I love 1960's Japanese watches - usually earlier than the G of D era, though.
