Thoughts on the 3301 cal movement?

As the certified Newb to the forum, I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on owning one of these.

I have a 3301 cal AT (pictured).

Really love it as it dresses up a bit from my SMP or Speedy.

Anyone have issues with theirs? I know these movements can be a bit finicky. I've noticed it doesn't keep time as accurately as my SMP, speedy or my wife' watches. If I stay on it daily...it's fine, but if I leave it on the winder for a week it's inevitably off.

Timekeeping is not a known problem with these watches, so if yours is not running as it should it should be looked at (if it really bothers you) and if it's due for service.

I don't know if I would call them really "finicky" but they are not "routine" to service, as they require that you pay a bit more attention I guess than other movements require. Not everyone likes working on these, but honestly I don't mind them at all. If you have a process in place to deal with the specifics, they are pretty straightforward.

There are several upgrades to the movement that should be done at service - the number of them varies with the age of the watch. I have 2 versions in the shop right now - one the 3313 so co-axial version.

Cheers, Al

Al,

Interesting...thx for the info. Didn't know all that (especially about the upgrades).

Chris, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy of Omega's technical bulletin with all the upgrades. I think I still have it on my desktop at home.

Yes that would be yours. I have not started it yet, so don't know if it needs any upgrades yet...

My 3301 went back to Omega four times. The first three under warranty, the fourth was at my cost. I was very disappointed with it and sold it after the last service.

I think mine was the exception, not the rule. Others love theirs. I have no plans to buy another.

As timeexposure says, i love mine - its been a flawless timekeeper for six years, but went to Archer for a service when the chrono minute hand stopped advancing. Al, as you know no rush - but i bet it needs every upgrade on the book!

Hi all! uhane3a5.jpg

I never had any issue with my 3301. It runns with +0.5 secs per day which is a fantastic result.

😁😁

Good to know! Mine is a tad finicky. Runs well but is tougher to keep wound on the winder than my 2531.80...I can't seem to find the right setting to keep it running. After a week or two it will be considerably behind

Usually this is a very good movement in terms of winding efficiency (actually far better than the Cal. 1120 in your SMP), so if it's not staying wound with the recommended number of turns per day in the right directions, then it may need some work.

Thanks Al. This was my second real watch (bought in 2006) so it's due a tune up.

Appreciate it!
