Thoughts on Nomos

The look of Metro Power Date caught my attention at a time when I’ve stopped collecting/into watches. A few years later, I saw the watch in person and like its sleek & odd subtle look as well as the quality finish. Told myself it’ll be my last watch purchase. It merely lasted for about a year which by then I was back into collection again

This Metro wears comfortably and is one of my fav and regular watch.

Great brand. i'm considering one at the moment. I feel the entry level ones at around 1k used represent amazing value. Timeless aesthetics too.

I love the Bauhaus aesthetic from Nomos. I've never seen one in person but I do have a spot on my list for one in the coming years. I particularly like the cases and crowns for some reason. I think they're sharp

Sorry for the delayed reply to this string. Congrats on the Metro arktree! I really like Nomos, their aesthetic, and their quality. My wife got me a club neomatik last Christmas and it is stunning in the metal (I’ve put it on an Erika’s Original strap in the picture). The dial may look white in pictures but it actually has a silver dusting to it. The silver hands are also like the Speedy alpha hands and are surprisingly easy to read as they really play with the light. There are a few things that could be improved: First, the in house 3001 automatic movement keeps great time but you can feel and hear the winding rotor. Second, the lugs and crown protrude quite a bit. The long lugs are a hallmark across models but the crown issue is more specific to the club line. Just keep in mind if you are ordering just based on the stated dimensions, these watches wear larger.

I think I’m going to get a 741.it has a substantial looking case and the lugs are pretty beefy. 200m WR, but I really wish it had a screwdown crown.

Wearing mine again today...picture I took when servicing one a while back.

As I noted previously, they are great to work with as a company, and parts access for watchmakers is not an issue - my last order:

And parts are priced very reasonably. For example the Nomos Alpha movement is based on the Peseux/ETA 7001, that Omega also used as the Cal. 651. In the photo above I ordered in a bunch of complete mainspring barrels, because Nomos doesn't sell the mainspring separately, just the complete barrel (barrel drum, cover, arbor, and mainspring). The cost of these is about 1/4 of what Omega charges for a complete barrel for the Cal. 651.

brand has always been on my list and most models check many boxes for me. that being said. i always seem to pass over it and never actually pull the trigger on.

Archer, thanks for all your contributions to the forum! Random question about Nomos parts: the crown on the club model protrudes so much more than the other models that use the 3001 movement. Do you know if the crowns from the tangente or metro line would work in on a club or do the differences in case size prevent that sort of mod?

Hard to say without being able to measure the case tubes on both, as I don’t have the dimensions...

Last week i picked up a 35mm Tangente for my mothers 60th birthday. However the size was indeed too large for a small female wrist.
Unfortunatelly the AD didnt have any 33mm Tangente in stock and the waiting time on orders are currently very bad (they said it might take 7 months), at least thats how long they are waiting on their current orders.
So i took the 33mm Ludwig with a saphire caseback. Also a very lovely design. maybe even better, since the shape of the case and bezel is more round and smooth. I hope this time it will fit her wrist 😀
