Thoughts on Nomos

Philippe Dufour had good things to say about Nomos:

I would say that you could buy at this price, maybe a bit less, a very good watch in terms of value and quality. It’s not Swiss - sorry - [but] a German brand called NOMOS. I found that this brand makes a very serious product. I like these watches, and for somebody who wants to start, I think this will be a good [choice]: not too expensive and good value for money.

Yea I do enjoy the Tangente, I was a bit thrown off by how large the 38 wears. After seeing people like Jwit's Nomos I think I need to definitely downgrade to a 35mm version.

This is a brand I've started to service pretty regularly, and Nomos is good to work with for parts access. Wife and I still own ours, and we both love them. Highly recommended from me.

They almost do it for me. I really like the design of the Zurich and the Ahoi, (especially now that it comes in 36mm). I wish they had some finishes other than all polished.

I had heard the same as archer that they supply all parts to independents freely, in sharp contrast to our favoured brand. I think this protects the long term value very well.
I do wonder what omega has done with the dies etc for production of vintage parts. Could they be acquired?

I really like their elegant, understated designs. I am a big fan of Bauhaus influence.

I like Nomos style. A few years ago I visited guided Nomos manufacture tour in Glashütte, Germany - really unique experience. My wife has a Tangente 33 with Alpha movement (the basic one from the price perspective). She is very satisfied with the watch. As the range of calibers expanded, prices went quite higher

I don't have many modern watches, but do like the look of the Club. It seems like the lugs are very long relative to the size of the case, does anyone else think so? That's been the hold up for me.

I never really appreciated them until I saw two or three up for sale here that really jumped out at me. I think one was the Doctors Without Borders limited edition Then a couple others which model names I don’t recall. I don’t think I appreciated the “simple” look then I started to understand that’s their style. Yes I’m a little slow. I definitely wouldn’t mind having one someday. Not real high on the list but I certainly admire them from afar.

How I feel at the moment. Respect the brand and would like to have one in the collection, but haven’t found the model that I truly love.

Hmmm I seem to recall some Chinese copies of this watch a few weeks ago on Aliexpress which I had at the time admired, didn't know the true parentage, thanks for that. I might go for the price and look rather than the name as I cant afford the real deal at the moment with Covid hitting my business bottom line.

That one would be within my pay grade...😉

If it ends up breaking, it is just not worth it though. I got a seagul chrono a few years ago and it worked for like 3 days. Watches are so expensive to service that there is really no point in getting something that is not a keeper.

Well I must say I am impressed by Nomos watches, an automatic movement with an astounding 3.2 mm thickness OMG and an manual movement at 2.6 mm, amazing. I have a new found respect for this brand after looking at their website.

For my opinion... I am definitely intrigued and like many aspects of the watches.

However, I still can’t get over the amount I’d pay when the dial, to me, looks like it’s made of paper... though I still like the look.

For a bit of time I was looking at adding the Metro to my buy list,

Love them as a brand and have contemplated buying the Tangete 101. For the price i struggle to find another watch brand offering so much value for a watch. Unfortunately, I just don't wear dress watches that often but if i did it would be high up on the list.

😀

I can assure you that the dials are made of metal, just like most dials are...here are the backs of a few to show you:

The finish on these dials is done very well, so they are very good quality dials.

Wow thanks Archer! That’s an eye opener and I will certainly revisit Nomos watches.
