Hi folks, it’s been some time since I’ve posted. I just came across this Ed White at a store in Tokyo, and with a price tag of about $10,800. Any thoughts? I’m looking for any excuse I can not to buy. Please! My wife begs you.

Looks in original condition to me. Have you seen the innards? Recent service?

I like it so far! Lugs look good on limited views. If movement checks out correct SN etc I’d say 👌

Thanks all, I haven’t seen the innards yet and will ask to do so. Recently serviced.

The hour counter should reset and stay at 0 if recently serviced. Check that it doesn’t have hour creep.

This. The fact the hour hand is not at zero but all the others are suggests this might be an issue.

Hand drag damage to the running seconds subdial, but the price does seem not too bad. The colour on the markers may be less attractive under normal lighting, but as I said, its not a $25,000 example so it needs to have a few issues.

I would budget a service

edit: and a crown I think, cant see for sure but it looks possibly wrong

Looks honest, with some obvious condition issues. Really comes down to its appeal in-hand vs price, and you are in the best position to judge.

Here is a thread on the topic with detailed response w photos from @Archer
I actually had the same problem with another watch before and had forgotten. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks Spacefruit, I’m looking into the crown. The markers look better in person than in the photo.

The serial number is in the correct range for this reference. The crown is the correct 24-tooth model. The guts look good. But there is a problem with the hour chrono hand, and the store is working on it. That might be the excuse I need to maintain marital harmony.

just do what i do, and tell her it's a no-risk investment. Don't ever sell it and you can't be proven wrong.

lol I may use that one. I usually just tell her “oh this old thing? Had it for years” or just admit to it being half the price that it actually was. I should layer in it’s a no risk investment! See hunny? I’m always thinking about our future
