There was a thread about this company years ago, consensus was mostly positive.

Just curious now, seven years later, what people’s impression of the brand are. Thanks.

Clean, mid-century modern, Bauhaus vibe. I wonder if it's gotten too familiar. It feels more like a youthful, European Watch. Curious to hear what our European members think.

Nice simple design, perhaps a bit pedestrian for some tastes, simple, elegant and understated for others. Good quality watches.
I like them, but probably wouldn't strech to buying a new one. There are so many options in this price bracket that it is very difficult to choose, especially if your collection spans watches for every occasion.
For me this means a potential purchase really does have to capture my imagination before I will buy something unless it is at a price point similar to a casio or timex.

Damn someone I know was on this hunt for a particular limited model. I gotta look it up as he showed me and it was really nice looking. Now this dude had many nomos and is a watch maker, granted on the side but he is well versed. He always has high praise of the watches and movements but this is one guys opinion. I used to look the other way at nomos but damn that blue dial he had was really attractive.

The lugs can be too long for some tastes, it’s great to try one on before buying if you can. I think they look amazing and they made my short-list for sure

That's an important point actually. If you're thinking about e.g. the Orion, and unsure about which size to choose, and you can't try them on in the metal... then go for the smaller one. Due to the long lugs.

.. but they've come out with some cool/quirky colourful watches, too! Like the new world timer.

But I do like the classic Bauhaus a lot.

I need this like I need a hole in my head but I can't stop looking at it. Something about the small seconds and the even numbered dial.

I have two Nomos watches. They are exceptionally well made and the design is distinguished. Their political activism lately is putting me off, however.

Please elaborate on your latter point, if you will, as my research, though admittedly scant, could not reveal anything terribly offensive.

They are taking some active political positions, which makes some of their customers and partners "good" and others "bad". To me the companies should stay away from politics, even if they line with my own political views. You will not find this outside of the German speaking media, as these are mostly interviews - and not for watches.
But again - Nomos watches are exceptional for the price, and the image they have among the watchmaking world is very respectable. Here you can see how they make their watches, for more transparency about what do you get:

A few years ago when I suddenly had to have a watch with minimalist design I narrowed it down to Nomos and Junghans. I eventually went for the Jungans Max Bill Chronoscope. But if the day ever comes that I need another minimalist design watch, I will definitely revisit Nomos.

That’s interesting, because I wouldn’t think that kind of information would not be available by searching.

I’ve found some general statements that they are against intolerance, but if there’s something offensive to share, please do so, as this would affect my interest in a purchase.

Don't worry, they are politically correct as much as it goes, and they are on the side of the good ones. As I said - excellent watches for fair price, with a level of manufacture (as you see on the video) which few can even offer. I recommend them to anyone, it's only my very personal decision not to buy Nomos anymore.

P.S. adding a pic of my Nomos'es:
