My thoughts exactly. It is the watch I wanted, and to be honest I would have paid more. I didn't ask for an assessment of the price, just the watch. I greatly appreciate all the feedback that I got, and the potential areas of concern. It is good to go into a deal with as much info as possible. I took a bit of a risk. I might regret it, but I don't think so. We shall see.

To satisfy my curiosity, what was the size? 6.5 inch wrist size? (16.5cm)

An update for you all. The watch arrived today and it exceeds all my expectations. Some of the posts on this thread made me nervous. There absolutely was a for corrosion issues, and I was concerned about the possible staining on the edge of the dial. Good news, all potential areas of corrosion seem to be schmutz, the watch runs, the brown staining seems to be non-existent, the bracelet fits, and I have a a NOS original crown en route from member in England.
As already said, I appreciate all the feedback on this thread. A big thanks to @ConElPueblo for his How to Fish thread and a super big thanks to @seekingseaquest for some help via PM. I know the gamble could have turned out differently, but this is exactly the watch I wanted. It arrived an hour ago, and I am still giddy with excitement. This is such a great community, thanks all. Once the crown arrives, I will promptly send it off to my watchmaker. I'll post another update when it comes back.
A Andy FI think you should also be looking for a stem? Regardless, the cost of a crown and stem and a well done service will round this one out quite nicely. The 501 movement is quite good and should run incredibly well once done. My recommendation would be to have your watchmaker install a new mainspring when he does the service. This is the one movement component that doesn't stand the test of time and now is a great time to replace it. This is your option and just my personal opinion.

Thanks for the tips Andy. I am assuming my watchmaker who has an Omega parts account will have no difficulties finding a stem, and he includes a new mainspring as part of his standard service. He will inspect the watch and give me an itemized estimate before doing any work. I am guessing a new stem and a few other parts may need replacing. I just wanted to make sure and get an original crown, because the current replacement crown is quite a bit different.
I've been trying to figure this out with little success. The listed crown ref. number on the lists circulating on the forum is 42055, which is the newer replacement. I have an old Omega bestfit list which has 8100/1056. That may or may not be correct, but a quick search pulls this up on ofrei. Looks similar...
