Thing That Annoys You Most As a Watch Collector

Sometimes I would like that the "Academie Française" does that a bit more, instead of creating some ugly new words to replace an english word that everyone uses since years.

@Ninja2789 I hope you are way more open-minded now, given the number of reduced owner we have here 😜

I have a reduced too, but not the date one. They are different watches than the Pro, same as the current "racing" coaxial line-up. In the end they should be considered for what they are and what they deliver for the price.
A few months ago I tried the Pro, the FOIS, and I had my Reduced on the wrist. I liked the Pro (and saw that even of my small wrist it was not that big), I still like my Reduced, but the FOIS was too much in between to enjoy wearing it...

I tended to behave the same way about "modest" watches but in the end I realise that as long as the owner likes his watch and the brand do not overprice it (e.g. not asking $200 for a watch than can be found at $10 "unbranded"), then it is ok. And it also helps me care less about what others could think and more about enjoying what I want

Now one of the thing that annoys me the most as a collector is people that try to screw others by selling "genuine" / "all original" watches that were heavily modified or badly restored...

The Frisian Islands you mean? With later stolen items from French, German, Latin, Hindi, Creole and Pigin. That's the short-list.

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.

Without wishing to be pedantic, the purity of the English language or lack of is not being defended nor debated; just the fact that deployment would be equally valid as a term used for a particular type of watch clasp.

In some parts of the world, those parts being..... where the Queens English is spoken,...... the original country where English came from, ......the mother ship of English as it were,..... ie not America, Australia, Canada, South Africa etc etc...deployment is correctly used when talking about silly little clasps that open and close watch opening thingies. It is not wrong, nor will it ever be wrong, either as a translation of the original term or in terms of it being a common way of referring to the mechanism that opens watches in the UK. Which term you use is a matter of preference rather than a disputed fact.

Wouldn’t It Be Loverly
If The English People Could Learn To Speak.

Looking at the new watch several times a day to admire the new acquisition and realizing that .... you don’t really pay attention about what time it is so you need to look again 😀

Having to scroll past all of the pictures to see the asking price in the sale forum.

Agreed.

Agreed.
Or how about 3 pages of florid description and specs with 25 pictures and you have to look up and down 3 times to find the price.
I actually would like to see the price in the description line- that way I can say- they want how much??? Hard pass.

It's the best when the price is buried in between photos. That and/ or using the word 'minty' prevent me from giving it serious consideration. Well, 'minty' more so than the buried asking price, as it is a meaningless term where the Seller kinda sorta wants you to believe a watch is 'mint', but they know it isn't even very close. It usually does not even warrant 'very good condition'.

Are you suggesting we should get rid of the most looked and liked thread on OF?

That would really be a shame, how else can WE see all the beautiful watches in the world?!?😕
