So friend called me yesterday to go have a couple beers.

I resisted as best I could.

Until the Summer Solstice card was played.

Damn, you just can't say no to a celebration that's been happening since the Neolithic Era.

Enjoy! We're sitting out and watching fireflies, waiting for the sun to set at 9pm!

Was sitting here watching The Pacific on Netflix. It reminded me of something that is on mywant list that isn’t watch related. So here’s one of mine. It’s been there a long time. I’d love to add a WWII M1 Garand to my collection. Heralded as the greatest battle rifle of all time, I’d like one utilized during the war.

The serial number range agrees with the 6-44 barrel date on the M1 here

I love the M1, it's a fun rifle with its ping, and it's plenty accurate too. Mine is a 53. I prioritized finding an International Harvester Garand over a WWII one. It goes with my other IHs nicely.

This one looks perfect to me! Nice and solid, but rough enough around the edges to leave it parked somewhere.
Thanks.

Yep, just like I like my watch. Beat up enough to not have to worry about a scratch, but good enough to look nice.

It seems I did bring something more than my luggage from LAX.

Well shit happens I just got to live through it.

So sorry to hear that. I hope you have a light case and prayers for quick recovery.

Thank you so much, I guess it is quite light, better than the shot I had against it some years ago.

That would have been somewhat surprising, considering I am 58 and male. Thanks a lot, I have healed up fine now and so have the people I passed it on to.

A big sorry and better luck next time to all you English men today. I happened to watch the Euro final, and I did not realize that the F word was pronounced "FOOCK", but I heard it quite a few times after the match, so it must be so.

Is anyone into tabletop gaming? I'm having some sort of midlife crisis / second childhood playing battletech alpha strike with my kid.

Today's mission: his units had to rescue a baby allosaurus from poachers (my mechs). It's not canon, but it was fun.

I’m the same age as you, mate. Good times…and I hope the 80s were as fun and good for you as they were for me 😀😁

This is an awesome idea! I know that BattleTech has come up briefly in conversation with you before, unfortunately my Miniatures have seen no action in years.

Perhaps I will set up a similar scenario for my kids at some point in the future!

Awesome! My kid and I argue over who gets to use the Mad Cat 😀.

My kid is almost 7 and he got hooked just getting to help paint the miniatures. And the dice rolling has been good chance for him to practice following instructions and quick mental arithmetic. I've just been having him use Alpha Strike rules to keep the gameplay fast and simple, and we hadn't been doing all the rules for heat or special weapons/equipment.

Also, since he's still 6, there's always some sort of funny aftercare for the mechs. Yesterday, he took all the destroyed mechs, built them a hospital, and sort of played house with them.
