I’ve been tempted... I love a manual wind vintage watch, this ticks a bunch of boxes for me. What are your impressions so far?

Well, honestly it'd be pretty hard to dislike given its specs: 38mm, manual wind, no date....

The brushed case finish feels cheap, but ends up working really well towards the rugged/beater watch vibe. It's nice and legible, and the case is pretty slim so it lends itself really nicely to being tossed on a NATO and going anywhere / doing anything. Crown is nice and large so very easy to wind, even if wearing gloves or your fingers are frozen. Keeps really good time at its price range. And of course it's manual wind which I really love - all in all for $500.

Oh - and when it does need adjusting (so far, I think maybe twice in the month or so I've had it) it's super easy to do because the seconds hand hacks!

What could they have done better? If the watch had the vintage Hamilton logo, and the 13-24 track was in red, it'd just be an absolute banger. As is, I still think it's one of the best watches of the year.

edit: photo of thickness (strap is a BluShark NATO)

aap aap
So now the questions to my mind would be whether I’d want to add another watch in the collection and how many beaters I’d need (or want)

I have one actual beater (the Hamilton) for physical work, one vintage beater (ripped up old 220 Speedmaster) that I just wear around the apt, and have been eyeing an ETA Black Bay Blue as a go out beater for hikes and stuff. You make up reasons.

I'd take #3, with a side order of #2. (Sorry if that wasn't the answer you were looking for.)

Haha. Yup. If only having the money is as easy as making the reasons

For a thousand$, no. For $500, yes. I think they look good.
I have a Magrette with the STP 1-11. It works, so far.

Short money ... great design .... my question to me would be where does it fit in my daily wear rotation? If you can’t answer that don’t pull the trigger.

I had the red bezel with spade hands a while back and loved it. Super solid piece, comfortable and well finished with decent lume. Ran +7 sec/day consistently on the wrist. Only sold it to fund other purchases and have always wanted another. I say go for it if you like it... the jubilee bracelets on some of the models are gorgeous and feel great as well. I think Fossil is making smart moves with Zodiac...

Pics of course

Not much of a mention for the vintage route? To me Zodiac buying Fossil is like Invicta buying Glycine, vintage all the way.

Gratuitous Glycine shot.

They're all over eBay for $700-ish. I think list price is $1295.
Nice, thanks.
Last time i checked their official website wouldn’t allow shipping to the UK which is weird.
They’ve done a couple of decent limited editions recently too.
In answer to your question, though, I say buy it.

The fossil zodiacs offer alot of bang for the buck. However I'm still working on collecting and wearing vintage zodiac watches. I purchased a fossil zodiac for my grandson. He loves that watch.

Here's my conundrum: why spend the $700-ish when I have my Seiko Pepsi? A quick service / timing and it's good to go. Seeing as my wife and I are in "Pay Off Debt" mode, do I really like the Zodiac so much more than my Seiko that I'd spend the cash? Or, for that kind of money, should I seek out a vintage SeaWolf since they can still be found in nice shape for around that money?

I see your problem..................

Buy the Zodiac, looks way far cool.

I bought this one second hand. The Zodiac movement had two consecutive problems setting the time for me. The second time I just had my watch guy swap to the ETA 2824 movement instead of trying to fix the time setting problem again (time plus set backwards but not forward). Love the style but hate the in house movement.

You wear a beater around the apartment? What sort of mishaps happens to you there that makes you save the good stuff? 😜
In related news, I cleaned the windows on the outside of our rowing club yesterday only to discover after a few hours that I had been wearing my newest Constellation whilst getting absolutely drenched 🤦🤦
