The mystery crystal.

Good day, ladies and gents. I have recently purchased a crystal with a round date-loupe. This was supposed to go on my Monodatic with porthole date-aperture. It supposedly fits a ref 200101 (which is the steel Monodatic ref) and is really nice. But: the engraved “U” in the middle of the crystal points towards the cyclops. Since these “U”s normally point towards 6, this seems a little mysterious. Does anyone know of a ref 200101 with the date at 6 o clock? Or did UG sometimes sign their crystals like that? Is it a special way to mark crystals for use in Monodatics so that they wouldn’t be put on Polerouters? I have no idea... but i’d be interested to know more! Cheers, Y.

What is the size of the plexi? Dont remember seeing UG's Monodatic with date at six. Early reference polerouter date had round date-loupe. But date at 3 as well.

Exactly, I don’t know of any model with the date at 6 (except one with a very large bezel, but it has a different crystal) as well. This crystal measure 31.5 mm

This one would be at Six.....?
Oh wow... but would the crystal also be marked with the “u” in the shield?

I have my doubts on that...

Any chance it’s an aftermarket cyclops glued onto a signed crystal at the “wrong” spot, such that the U points sideways rather than up/down in relation to the date? I actually didn’t even know that could be possible until somebody suggested it on my monodatic thread earlier this week.!

Well, although i can’t rule out that it’s aftermarket, the loupe is def not glued on - it’s pretty elaborately sunk into the crystal. A work of art in itself. The amount of ingenuity that went into this loupe-design would be aaayonishing from an aftermarket manufacturer...

Absolutely - if this crystal belongs to a mono, and it is meant to be this way, then there should be a monodatic with the date at 6. Why is that UG rabbithole only getting deeper all the time?

..or whoever was in charge of producing the crystals on that shift was doing a little "day drinking" and inadvertently spun it sideways... 🤪

Omega didn't care how the orientation of the logo went in their crystals so I doubt UG did wither.

Thought the same - but somehow all the other UG crystals I've researched have the U pointing towards 6… 📖

without having done any research at all, this would also be my thought

I guess it depends on how the plexis were branded.

Did they use a mold? If so I guess they should turn out identical.

What about the ones with the loupe? Was a single process? Or in two different moments?

Posted earlier today on Instagram by another Mono owner - very crispy condition. I inquired about the orientation of his U logo, and he confirmed it’s the “standard” 12/6 vertical placement.
