·Hello everyone,
I am trying to clarify a rather strange question regarding the OMEGA Speedmaster 5-Counters Chronograph from the Beijing 2008 Timeless Collection.
The reference is:
OMEGA Speedmaster 5-Counters Chronograph
Beijing 2008 Timeless Collection
Rose Gold / Red Gold
Ref. 321.53.44.52.01.001
Several secondary sources describe this rose gold version as being limited to 88 numbered pieces. I have also seen secondary-market or auction-related references suggesting numbers such as “87/88” and “88/88.”
However, after searching public market information, auction references, watch databases, and collector discussions, I still have not been able to find a clear caseback photograph of the rose gold Ref. 321.53.44.52.01.001 confirming its actual numbering format.
That is what makes this reference so mysterious to me.
If this was truly an 88-piece limited edition, I would normally expect at least some clear public evidence after nearly 18 years since the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games: a caseback photo, an auction image, a catalogue note, or a confirmed collector example showing whether it was marked “No. XX,” “XX/88,” “No. XX/88,” or something else.
By contrast, the yellow gold Ref. 321.53.44.52.01.002 seems easier to trace in the public market. The rose gold 001, however, remains strangely unclear despite repeated claims of “88 numbered pieces.”
So my main questions are:
1. Was the rose gold Ref. 321.53.44.52.01.001 officially a limited edition or not?
2. If it was limited, was it officially limited to 88 pieces?
3. Were all 88 pieces actually produced and circulated?
4. Or was it simply a gold numbered version, similar to the yellow gold Ref. 321.53.44.52.01.002?
5. What was the actual caseback wording or numbering format?
6. Has anyone seen a clear caseback photo of the rose gold Ref. 321.53.44.52.01.001?
7. Did a rose gold No. 8 / 8 of 88 example actually exist?
8. Was any rose gold eighth-numbered example connected to OMEGA’s Beijing 2008 Unique No.8 Collection?
9. Do references such as “87/88” or “88/88” reflect actual caseback engravings, auction descriptions, catalogue wording, or simply secondary-market interpretation?
I am not making any claim. I am only trying to understand the correct classification of this obscure Beijing 2008 Speedmaster reference.
If anyone has handled this reference, seen a caseback photograph, found an auction record, catalogue reference, archive note, or reliable collector evidence, I would be very grateful for your insight.
Even a short answer such as “I have seen one and it was marked XX/88,” “I have seen one and it was marked No. XX,” “It was a limited edition,” “It was not a limited edition,” or “I have never seen reliable evidence of the rose gold caseback numbering” would be very helpful.
Thank you very much.
