First time I made these rolls. They came out well I think.

They look gooood!

I have been baking sourdough rye bread today. Wholegrain rye bread is kind of a Danish specialty and sourdough is just awesome.

Oh that looks amazing! I love the seeds. What kind of pan are you using to get that shape? I’m thinking smoked salmon would be perfect on a slice of that.

Yeah about 500 grams of sunflower seeds 😀 I use a normal loaf pan.

Using sourdough it is always a little tricky though but they turned out great. Smoked salmon on this would be absolutely perfect.

Don't know if this falls under baking, but since we don't have a candy making thread, I guess it will do!

As a youngster a Xmas thing in our household was my mother making home made candy, and nothing was more popular with friends and relatives than her home made peanut brittle. Over the years my sister had tried to master it, with "mixed" results, so at one point I felt it landed on my shoulders to keep this alive. Before my mother passed I made a point of having my wife and I help her make the annual peanut brittle, and we learned the correct procedures from her.

We haven't made this in a few years, so today we decided it was a good day to make a few batches...heating the sugar and corn syrup...

Have to get it boiling to 132 C...

Once it hits that temperature, you throw in the butter - at this point it must be stirred constantly to avoid burning...

You then bring it to "hard crack" temperature, which is about 150 C, and then all the next steps happen very quickly. You throw in a mix of baking soda, vanilla extract, and some water. That is quickly stirred in (which releases a lot of steam), and then you pour in the peanuts, stir furiously, and then dump it out onto a cookie sheet. Spread it out and let cool...

Once cool, break it up and enjoy. It is delicious!

Years ago this was a popular Xmas treat that both my wife and I would bring to our respective workplaces. We eventually had people ask us to make them some that they could give away, and a very small seasonal business was born. There were years when we would make 50 batches of this stuff, but since we both work from home, that hasn't happened in a while. Today was only for gifts and a very small bit for us, so just 4 batches.

Not sure if anyone else here is into candy making, but if so let's see it.

Cheers, Al

I love that stuff! I had a guy at work that did the same small business at Christmas time selling it. The the world turned weird and the department outlawed it.

The last baked things for 2021 — Peanut butter cookies — everyone’s favorite in our home.

Now this is even browning. Very pleased with myself, I might add!

And because I’m not a monster, obligatory watch shot.

Happy New Year to all!

If you use crunchy peanut butter, I would recommend using smooth instead, and then adding in your own chopped peanuts. It results in a much better cookie that isn’t as dry.

Ha ha reported for duty but due to “supply chain issues” PPE didn’t make it to the site today so they sent me home. The way they do it you still get paid for a half day so I’m getting paid for baking banana bread which my wife requested. That may not sound cool but it is their policy I don’t make the rules I just show up and they tell me this stuff. Does seem like a waste though.

Swedish “Kanelbullar” (cinnamon rolls). First attempt. Tasty! Had never baked with ground cardamom before, and it’s excellent. (Couldn’t locally source proper Swedish “pärlsocker” so the topping is Belgian pearl sugar, which is a tad too chunky.)

Kind of happy made empanadas a coworker with Spanish heritage gave me a recipe definitely not something in my wheel house. Side of fresh made cole slaw only problem is I had directions for a great Spanish rice I completely forgot to make it.
