·It appears Gene Cernan and Tom Stafford were Omega Ambassadors and selling Speedmasters as far back as their time on Apollo 10.
I was doing a bit of follow-up research on Cernan's 105.003 Speedmaster and ran across this great conversation during a live CBS News television broadcast televised during Apollo 10’s outbound journey to the Moon.
Here is a 60 second clip I cut from the longer broadcast of what I believe could be considered Omega’s first Speedmatster commercial live from space. I’m still trying to locate the original downlink television feed that might be a bit clearer since McCandles indicates he can read the time on the watch but this will have to do for now.
This is a great conversation about Cernan’s watch as observed by CAPCOM communicator Bruce McCandles. The “And still keeping perfect time” tag line by the CBS announcer is pure advertising gold. The last part of the conversation is also interesting when you hear Stafford talk about synchronizing their watches and stating “It looks like we have a good piece of gear here Bruce” which I believe is in reference to the watch in the context of the whole conversation.
