The Fake Space Compax Spotting Guide

If you really want to prove that. Perhaps you can try to find a UG ad or catalogue from the time with the said case. There are plenty of UG issued documents on the space compax from that time period (with pictures) but so far I think there is none with the case shape you are talking about.

Thanks. I have been looking. That's how I've come across these oddball examples. BTW, so far I've only found adverts / catalogue / documentation for the SC mk1. Nothing for the SC mk2.

spaced out on a Saturday... BTW, not sure if anyone caught this before... my favorite anomaly is the gen bezel counts up, the 'fake' bezel counts down ...

Dial looks like it was painted by the guys who put down highway lane divider stripes

It would help if you gave us some indication which post you are responding to.

I while back, I heard of a job lot of cases slowly appearing from an Italian apasionado. My guess is that none of them one cases have reference or serial numbers. Explains the number of fake space compax models circulating. Best to ensure reference and serial are in place!

I have to say I'm a bit confused. At first I thought the bezel was an indication of fake or not (depending on the direction of the numbering), but now it seems either is ok (although I first thought the MK2 version changed the direction of the numbering). Is this any indication of authenticity or not?
Also the case with the 'sharp' angled lugs was pointed to as fake, but it seems every other seller on the net considers it genuine (although that could count for nothing).
So, I'm not sure what to think when I see this listing with a start price of $15,500USD. At least they admit the crown is non-original:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-VINTA...676341?hash=item4673edd1f5:g:pUoAAOSwZtlaKImu
Kinda glad I'm not trying to navigate this minefield to own one, but have to admit it is a very cool looking watch.

Lots wrong with that ebay example, not just the crown --
*Dial is tired and from the font on the subdials it appears to be at least a partial (and poor) redial
*All the hands are incorrect
*Case is incorrect (sharp edges, not a mk1 case)
*Bracelet is incorrect (tho it does have a GF clasp)
*Crown is incorrect
I sent the seller a note pointing out these issues and offered $2,000 USD for it, which is what I think the parts are worth...

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. It's scary that those kind of prices are being asked for something with so many bits wrong.

Bump -- any thoughts on this one?
Didn’t we have a thread pointing out all potential Frankens from this shop like 8 months ago?

I know this is a Very old thread. However I was wondering how everything ended up with the chamfered cases.
Just recently I have seen some (eg monochrome) with correct dials and hands. Also the diver disappeared and the inside has the correct stamping. Is this just an Update of the fakes or do they exist?
Best Regards

The consensus is the chamfered cases are fake.
Any photos of the examples with the correct dials / hands / stamping?
