Happy birthday and indeed the price is too high, if condition was perfect it would be acceptable, however it has dial flaws

This one is not a C-Case and a redial I believe

thank you for taking the time, the search continues!

I think I like blue dials!

This one is £1,199.00 - so thoughts on that appreciated.

Do any of these listings come with an Extract that guarantee the '72 dating or are these just dealer estimates?

hello,

Thank you, I am checking the mechanism for the movement reference, should be 34 or 35 for 1972? I think that’s right?

Once I have some opinions from the experts in my phone, I’ll ask for a picture if one isn’t listed

Dial has flaking, but if you’re in UK too, a serviced watch could be practical I guess

Otherwise you pay 20% tax and usually watches aren’t serviced

To give you an idea, I think I sold my flawless blue dual with an Omega bracelet for below $800 here

How’s your time constraint with the gift?

Yes I’m in the UK.

I have about 4 weeks, but I won’t rush to buy the wrong one either.

my last example from eBay and then I might have to give it a rest for a few days to see if there are any new listings.

we aren’t watch collections in the way the lovely people here are so it needs to be a 1972 to have the significance.

I suggest you buy this and pay the 20% import tax, even if you get it serviced in UK, you'll end up with a better and honest watch for about the same price - they send it with ~DHL and arrives in around a week

This one has a scratched crystal and an 18mm bracelet instead of 18mm, but in my opinion it's a very respectable watch

Edit: https://www.chrono24.com/search/ind...&resultview=block&searchexplain=1&sortorder=0 - most of these have the serials exposed, you could go for pretty much any of these - just make sure the cases are slick - i.e. the edges of the case are sharp rather than blurred, it matters

I’m very happy I can share my first proper post in this thread. I just received my very first c-case and I am beyond happy with it. You can say that I am hooked as I already have a list of other references I would love to add including the grey dial variant of my watch. This is such a comfortable case shape to wear and I honestly can’t stop looking at it.

I now have it on this fun & playful strap for the time being until I can get a hold of the correct bracelet.

Also very happy to do a proper "now I can join the club" post! My first c-cased constellation arrived earlier today (the one I had asked about above), and I am so thrilled about it. Instantly in love. I haven't set the time yet because of the date change time window, but could not wait to take pictures. Thanks so much for all the information in this thread and for answering my questions. I am so happy about getting this. This is also my first vintage omega bracelet and damn, I see why people love them. So silky and comfortable!!

I know some folks in this thread are interested in the C-Cases with colored fume/ombre/vignette dials. One of the rare red/maroon versions in what appears to be a gold-capped Ref 168.017 has popped up on a local South African auction site (full disclosure: this is not my watch and I'm not interested in buying it). The watch itself is a bit scruffy, but it comes with a 1040 bracelet and a red Omega box that may or may not be original. Should definitely check on shipping as many South African sellers don't ship internationally. Good luck!

Had to have one with a (linen?) dial too, so this one arrived yesterday! I think this is even the correct buckle, but perhaps I am wrong. Does anyone here know?

I am confident your buckle is period correct for a 168.0XX 👍.

Here’s the buckle from my 168.017

Awesome, thanks @jB1128 That's a beautiful gold version! I may try to add one like it next 😀 ...though I suspect it will be pretty hard to find one in that pristine of condition.

So I've been skirting around the Constellation C-cases by aquiring C-cases from other brands.. Doubtless I'll get an Omega one eventually!

I'm curious though - is the Constellation C-case the "original" C-case? Did Gerald Genta basically design this style of case specifically for Omega, with all of the other late-1960 / early-1970s C-cases from other brands being inspired by it, more or less?

Is it a style of case that didn't have any precidents before the Constellation 168.009 was released in 1964? If so, it was a genuinely era-defining piece of design. It's hard to find a major watch brand that didn't introduce their own version of the C-case in the late 60s/early 70s.
