The stuff you find at thrift stores. And a cheap G Shock too. My first G Shock. I always preferred the square one.

40 years ago... The Right Stuff - How the Future began. movie based on Tom Wolfe's 1979 bestselling book on test pilots and astronauts.

For those who asked... these were indeed real " Aeromedicine " physical qualification tests which included some gruesome medical experiments during which the candidates were prodded and punctured or being held in heat chambers up to 130° F (54° Celsius) during 2 hours!
This all took place at the Lovelace Clinic (Albuquerque - New Mexico) and Wright Air Development Center (Dayton - Ohio).
The scene in " The Right Stuff " shows the blowing test, for which the all time record was set at 94 seconds, but Major John Glenn blew 151 seconds and Lt Scott Carpenter even 171 seconds !
So Naval aviators did best (Glenn was US Marine Corps & Carpenter was US Navy patrol pilot) 😁

Thanks for sharing that. The document which interests me the most is "Flying The Falls". As a private pilot, doing a flypast would be amazing. However, that chart doesn't say where the location of the waterfall actually is. Do you know if it's near Goat Island? That would kinda make sense looking at the flight path.

Niagara Falls. North and West of Goat Island? Been there many times but that map is confusing.

Thanks. I prefer to fly with an engine though 😁
Haha! Indeed. Google map shows observation points just North of Goat Island. The Falls are huge. There are different views from Canada and the US.

Saw this beautiful bird sitting in some tall grass behind a fence heading out of Heathrow yesterday.

What a stunning machine.

A friend took this from a sailplane a few years ago. It’s an excellent lesson in why we need a good lookout. Can you spot the Tornado?

This is the best place to view one in the UK… also next to its birthplace ….
Concorde made its first test flight in Britain. On 9 April 1969, thousands of spectators watched the delta-shaped plane soar into sky at Filton, near Bristol.

There is a prototype open to the public at Duxford which also has a working nose drop (need to check dates when that is happening) a group of enthusiasts are slowly restoring a lot of the electrical and pneumatic systems. There is also a lot to see at Duxford of course.

Reference Concorde, special timing for Bristol today….
It's been 20 years since the last iconic Concorde plane flew over Bristol's skies, returning to its home city.
The aircraft's first commercial flight was on 21 January 1976 and its last was on 26 November 2003.

My father worked on the design having followed by Grandfather into the aircraft industry at Filton, so it holds a special place for me.

Fantastic stuff @Omegafanman

I had to dig for these old pre digital pictures. My wife and I made our first trip to London in October 2003. We were walking along the Thames when we noticed everyone stopped and looking up. We looked up and caught sight of three British Airways Concords making their final arrivals flying along the river into Heathrow. What a sight to see three in a row following each other in.

Do the British also call their Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm pilots " Aviators " ?
