I guess Cokehead Watches lacked that certain jeune se qua!
I literally laughed just out loud and my wife looked at me funny. I was trying to capture the spirit without actually saying it -yes, all the Wall Street and Capitol asshats in the 80’s were coked to gills wearing watches like these.

for shits and giggles I fed Scarecrow Boat's post into google translate......it did manage to detect that it was in English
Show it to someone in gen alpha and I’ll get roasted for using it incorrectly. From my very brief time spent looking into their slang, I’d say it’s not really slang but just making shit up. Rizz is essentially short for charisma and Rizzler is basically someone that is good at flirting (I had to look these up)… tf skibidi came from though is beyond me. Here’s a bunch of words… and like I said, it’s like they are making shit up… and I oop. Unt unt ma delulu blud.

So dude is no longer part of the Cali-vernacular? Glad to see Hella is still hanging on- I think it’s only a California thing. For those outside of the left coast- Hella is a contraction of Hell-of-a, as in “we had a hella good time”, but the meaning broadened over time.
When I moved to the east coast for college people had never heard it before.
Oh right, I forgot that dude is also in there. However, everyone basically says bro/bruh. I swear, when I hear people conversing, I hear them say “bro” a couple of times per sentence. Bro, it’s like the word “like” and like bro, it has to be said like several times every couple minutes.

Hella is pretty common up here in NorCal. The alternative is Hecka but that like sounds hella weird to me. I lived in Maryland and Virginia for a total of 8 years and no one I met had heard hella.

For the record, slang largely goes over my head and trying to speak or even share that gen alpha nonsense feels like my brain cells are jumping ship en masse. Maybe I have joined the geezer club early. After all, I do have that gold colored Casio but in the full stainless case/bracelet option 😅

I find it interesting that those have been “rebranded” as “geezer” considering they evoke the early 80’s power suit, Gucci loafer Wall Street/ Capitol Hill vibe to me. Pretentious, smug, arrogant and excessive in every way- very far from Geezer.

What I see in my head when I think of one of these watches is 80s stache, long hair, receeding hairline, 5:00 shadow, red tracksuit with white stripes over a wife beater over a gut.

Can't forget the all white tennis shoes

That would be the Casio, not the Patek. Those guys could afford plugs.

I would say I am now a "geezer". As such all my watches are "geezer" watches. I won't burden you with those other brands in my safe Rolex, Nomos, Breitling, Tag, Tudor, Tissot, I'll just show you my "geezer" Omega trio. Speedy, 300M Summer Blue, X33 Skywalker. If ever there was a grouping of "geezer" Omegas, this is it.

As someone approaching geezerhood, I'm 2/3 the way there! Guess I should put off picking up an X33 for as long as possible!

Interestingly enough just yesterday a group of my college students explained "sigma male" to me, and I think your table has got it wrong. "Sigma Male" would translate to something like "total stud." "Sigma male" is a step above "alpha male." It comes from those ranking videos where the highest rating is S-tier then A-tier, B-tier, etc. The Greek sigma goes with S, so sigma male is the most dominant level above alpha males then beta males.

I’m honestly not surprised the table is wrong. I pulled that from one of the many “gen alpha to” translator websites and it would seem very few people that are attempting to translate have a good grasp on the lingo. I did find a fair amount of inconsistencies among certain words, with “sigma” & “sigma male” being two of them. I won’t pretend I have any idea of what I’m talking about as their slang sails straight over my head as well as making it spin 🙂🙃🙂. It is quite amusing though.

My 7-year-old has started saying "what the sigma!?" to mean "what the heck."

I am feeling old and worried.

So does this qualify as a geezer watch, or an OF collectable?

I think you're ok @lindo - your watch is (only just) 'pre-geezer'.

This is pretty funny. My son (who's almost 10) has an interest in watches. He saves up for the purchases with his own money. He has a couple of G-shocks, but most recently became interested that same A168 (square + gold geezer Casio). 😄

He's wearing it to school today and super excited.

I've been showing him pics of mechanical Seikos for next time.
Funny as I have seen a heap of these lately on young 20yo returning from Bali with full sleeve tattoos they have just sat 8 hours getting half a litre of black ink pumped into their arms.

Gold watches are in for the gen whatever that are about 20. Have seen 2 gold calculator watches this week.

The silver lining to this is that it keeps the impulsive trend seekers away from vintage analog watches.
