What do you guys think of this “Geezer Watch” trend? By this I mean this social media trend where many vintage dealers and some collectors are highlighting smaller, thin, precious metal vintage and neovintage watches, often gem set or with integrated precious metal bracelets? I tend to think of these as ladies’ watches and never got into them but maybe I’m too behind the times

Do you have model names or pics to clarify the watches you’re referring to?

When I think geezer watch I think anything on a gold plated stretchy bracelet. I know the hipsters were trying to bring that back as well as gold plated digital watches from the 80’s. They were ugly then- they haven’t gotten better with age.

I don't follow social media trends, so this is the first I've heard of it. Can you provide any photos of these "geezer" watches?

Probably watches the OP doesn’t happen to like!

I first heard the term from Mike Nouveau, a vintage watch dealer I happened across on Instagram. He seems to be at the forefront of the geezer watch popularity.

As a collector who may be at the beginning of his geezerness, they are not my cup of tea. But echoing @Canuck...buy what floats your boat. 👍

Didn't we have a thread recently where someone was making a big deal about finding a two-tone DateJust as a gift, not realizing that nobody actually wants them. ::facepalm1::

Ahh, undesirable watches someone is hoping to make fashionable so that they can cash in.
Yeah, on the nose. Having failed to make re-dialed watches collectible, this is the next approach.

These are the next hot thing- I can feel it!

Already started hoarding them with my Beanie Baby collection.

Just smacks of someone hoping to start a trend so they can charge a premium for watches they can get for pennies.

The word “geezer” is not likely to develop a following among the potential demographic for whom the adjective might apply!

I find it interesting that those have been “rebranded” as “geezer” considering they evoke the early 80’s power suit, Gucci loafer Wall Street/ Capitol Hill vibe to me. Pretentious, smug, arrogant and excessive in every way- very far from Geezer.

Yesterday’s yuppies are today’s geezers.

After all, someone who was 30 in 1984 is now 70.

Father Time is undefeated.

I think @misterenthusiast on Instagram has done a lot to popularize what he terms as geezer watches. All I can say is that at the ripe old age of 53, I’d love to have anything out of his collection.

In the Czech language they call that Hodinkee.
