I got married this last Saturday. I picked out the Tux and she picked out the watch and band. I know this isn’t going to be too popular but the band matched my brown wingtips perfectly.

And she loves my Speedmaster more than any other watch (hates my explorer 2, says it’s boring…maybe she’s a member here???)

Edit: just FYI, minister is wearing a no date sub under that sleeve
You look great! That’s a perfect summer wedding suit, and a Speedmaster on an appropriate strap is never out of place. Congratulations!

To the OP's original question, I was taught that black tie at a wedding should have no watch but I think that rule has relaxed quite a bit in the modern era.

I got married last month and since it was my wedding, I said "I'm definitely wearing what I want!" Wore this grey sunburst dial Seamaster "Speedmaster Companion" (dial looks like a steel blue in the sun) with my dark navy seersucker suit. We got married in Santa Barbara and it was pretty hot out so I left it on the bracelet. I know, I know everyone, breaking the rules but hey, it was our day.

Happily, I'm entitled to wear an alternative to a tux

And when I do, I have a watch to go with the ensemble 😎

Shouldn't to be wearing a bonnie blue bonnet as well?

I've always liked the fact that the Black Watch shares a motto with Montressor from the "Cask of Amontillado," Nemo me impune lacessit.

Not much call for a dress watch these days, but it would probably be one of these two....

I’d probably choose my ‘50 Gruen. It has a charm that feels right for a fancy night.

Honestly, most people don't notice these things, but if it's a black tie-wearing do, then go discreet - a slim piece will let you convince yourself it's overlooked because it (and therefore you!) are just so refined. (Maybe do something about that wrist hair...)

If there's old money around and you need to blend in, maybe amp it up just slightly.

But if it's a wedding of you or your closest, then don't hold back - that's the right time to go all in! (Also appropriate if meeting the President or the Queen.)

It's great that you're planning ahead for the wedding and considering your watch choice – a small detail that can make a big impact. While there's a debate about watches with tuxedos, I think a tasteful watch can add a touch of sophistication.

Considering your options, a classic choice like your 2254.50 or even the 311.30 Speedmaster could blend well. If you're concerned about being too casual, perhaps opt for a leather strap to elevate the elegance.

As you ponder, why not also explore https://www.gentlemansguru.com/product-category/wedding-tuxedos/? They have a collection that could provide inspiration for your overall wedding attire.
