Well that sounds good and keep me in peace, in fact one guy his selling his ROlex Submariner NonDate Ceramic Bezel one month used for almost 35% discount from SRP price but still I prefer to get PO 8500, anyway as you said is this PO 42mm is equipped with this upgraded version of barrel? IThanks for all your inputs guys this will leave me peace in mind purchasing my 3rd Omega Tomorrow.

I am just worried, we all know that we are paying a watch with our hard earn money so I just want to secure myself if the money I will pay for this model I can say its worth it.

Mate I can assure you its a VERY rare thing, no movement is without fault, even the Rolex Submariner movements have issues with the winding system that occur (mine cost a LOT to fix when that happened) but the number of members that own 8500s here is massive, with this being one of the only threads mentioning any issue. In addition this particular problem has been solved by Omega releasing an upgraded version of the part in question so future 8500s will not have it.

+1. As the OP it naturally was a bit of a pain to have to bring it down but Swatch did a great job (with very polite service) of replacing both barrels, so no major hassles there. And anyway, it does seem to be a rare occurrence as Dsio mentioned. Quite a few members here (and around the world) have had 8500s for several years, and it doesn't seem to be popping up on forums as a frequent problem.

The daily pluses of the 8500 - accuracy, 60hr PR - outweigh the low probability (AFAIK) of the barrel problem emerging, IMO. If anything, the positive experience I had with the Swatch centre and with their efficient handling of the problem convinced me to buy more Omegas!

Thanks all for this information. Al, your are a great contribution to this forum. I am new here to this forum and like to know or there are more announcements, read known problems, with the Omega 8500? I like to know about these problems before the guaranty of my watch is over....

Kind regards,
Arno

One other known issue is the hand sync problem. Wide reports of hour and minute hands going out of sync on 8500, 8605, and 9300 based watches. Watches are sent back to the service center and hands are replaced on the watches that have this problem. While not a movement issue specifically, more of a hand issues, but still an issue regardless.

There is a test for this - you pull the winding crown out to the hand setting position (position 3) and push it back in to position 1 - repeat this 10 times one right after the other. Then check to see if the hour and minute hands line up at 12. If they do the watch is fine apparently, but if not the watch should be sent in to have new hands affixed.

Cheers, Al

When was this hand issue first reported? Has it been cured in 2015 or does Omega simply wait for it to manifest? Thanks

I have no idea when it was first reported to Omega, but they sent out a bulletin on it at the end of November last year.

Interesting. Are pictures or video of this available anywhere?

On the Omega Extranet they have a video illustrating how the test is done and what the results can be, but not available to the public...not hard to imagine what misaligned hands look like though...

Thanks Al. Hey guys, cheer up. We all do have a good watch, which the 8500 are. If I had a second chance I would go again for this Omega watch. Although I would go for the even better Master version. That's why I hope that one day my 8500B will serviced (upgraded) to a 8500G (or 8508). Only that way I know how much magnetism-resistance my watch minimum has, above the laughable standard of 60 gauss.

Kind regards,
Arno
