Steel Speedmasters with display back

We are often asked to explain the differences between the (many) Speedmaster models fitted with a display back.

There might be some confusion between the different types of calibers, casebacks, dials and glasses. And first of all, between the different references. This is due to the fact that many models seem to be identical (but they are not), and to the co-existence of different model codes used by OMEGA, which are not so easy to understand.

Here is a new article we just published on our WBO website:

Wish you a nice read 😉

Thanks for sharing. Great book BTW 😉

I don’t know how I feel about display backs. They often add bulk to the watch disturbing its ergonomics but seeing the movement is great.

I absolutely prefer display backs. I have them on my AT and 3592 speedy. Omega makes beautiful movements, I don’t see the point in hiding them.... unless you’re actually going to space, of course.

Thank you for sharing the article.

I have really enjoyed your book, Moonwatch Only, and have read cover to cover more than once.

Great article, thanks for info! Years ago, I “updated” my 35th Anniversary Apollo XI with a display case back:

Bought it off eBay (still have the original case back of course). But I can’t see this variant in the article you linked to? It only says “Omega”, “Speedmaster Professional” and “Limited Edition”. Is it original, or a knock-off? Doesn’t bother me, as long as I can admire the movement inside.
