I love the full gold Speedmaster, but if you compare the gold to steel models:
Steel versions are so much under the radar and somehow more stylish. The Moonshine gold is not that much into your face, but still a little bit unpractical though.
On the other hand: there is a very special wibe in full gold. If you need to think economically: with the price of a gold watch you get plenty of historical steel models.
Gold vs. Steel; what’s your favourite?
Apollo 11 50th Ann. in Moonshine gold and
FOIS, Apollo 8 and the older Moonwatch 1861 with heasalite:

I really like the gold model, but would probably not wear it, as it is just two obviously valuable and in people’s faces. Plus, in certain parts of the world, if spotted, you could lose your arm.

A white gold speedy is rather less ostentatious.

I’m looking forward to seeing the new Canopus model in the metal which is tempting .

    Or a platinum 321.

In both cases watches that could be a “secret pleasure” to own and wear rather than a yellow gold model which I personally would find an embarrassment.

I don’t like the gold Speedies. The material doesn’t seem to match the watch’s purpose, IMO.

Traditional Speedy in stainless steel, preferably with a tritium dial and hands. It’s arguably the most iconic watch ever made for a reason. Nobody needs to be wearing a tool watch made from precious metal. Save it for dress watches.

I love both in the same way I love both in a rolex...I have the canopus and it's extremely elegant. There is a time and place for all types of watches...wear what makes you keep looking down at your wrist because you love it so much

I like the idea of a gold watch , but steel is much more practical for my lifestyle . But if a gold speedy was offered to me at a ridiculously low price ( which won’t happen) I would be very happy to wear it with pride .

I do not like gold Speedmasters, I do not like them, so I will banter.
I will not wear them in the house, I will not wear them with my spouse.
I will not put them in a box, I will not wear them with my socks.
I will not wear them here or there, I will not wear them anywhere.
I do not like gold Speedmaster, I do not like them, so there.

    (Apologies to Dr. Seuss)

It's a utility or sports watch and regardless of the brand I have always preferred stainless steel or titanium.

Steel for the day, white gold for the night... If I could, that would be my philosophy...

My favorite is the Moonshine Gold followed by the ST1 and then ST2. Unfortunately for me (but good for the wallet) I own none of them.

It’s meant to be a tool watch. Steel.

I took that a step too far last weekend when I pressure washed all the concrete around the house: sidewalks, patio, driveway. At the edges, it would kick up and often splash back soil, grass, rocks...

When I finished I realized I was wearing my speedy.

Rinsed it off and all is well. Tool watch.

I feel any sports watch in gold may detract from the tool watch origin, but isn't that the reason for a gold sports watch because you can?

I own the moonshine 50th and love it, also own the steel FOIS, Apollo 8 DSOM, and just added the new snoopy and love them all for different reasons, so very hard to choose a fav.

    How about gold and steel?

If I could afford it, I’d jump on the moonshine gold one. Absolutely fantastic.
