I was at an event last night, nothing posh but I went to an Elvis impersonator show in Leeds. Aside from it being much better than I thought I did spot that almost every table had a Rolex wearer present. Many subs, couple of GMTs and one a nice looking one on Everest strap. I was wearing my YM for a change and felt slight embarrassed at the huge proliferation of people wearing the same brand.

So many people must be friends or relatives of the local AD!

My point to this post: you would never think there was a SS Rolex shortage given what I saw last night. I guess once people have them, they never let go.

You're mixing in some good circles there! I can go weeks without seeing another Rolex but it is always nice when you find another enthusiast to chat to about watches and share stories.

Yep, and many will have bought a long time ago prior to the madness however.

Some don’t let go. Many (or most) people only have one watch and wear it for years - unlike us with the illness here....

FYI to anyone in the CT area. Foxwoods casino has a polar explorer 2, and the 39MM explorer as of last night. Apparently they just came in. Took a lot of will power to leave the store without one of them...

It's a bad situation. I want a Submariner or GMT Master II Batman but there is zero change I'm paying above MSRP. So I don't expect to get one anytime soon.

to add to that bubble:
I got a call, from an official Rolex dealer, to come and get a "sport " model.

he said: I need 9800 for it.
bare in mind that MSRP is 8800 and from that he also takes VAT back to him!!!

some just do that, some sell to people they know and split profit.

I passed on the "opportunity"...

I don't know of any UK Rolex AD that would be allowed to sell a new Rolex watch above MSRP. They would loose their dealership if Rolex clocked that.

I was at a wedding recently and saw a good few Rolex sports, I was struck by the fact that these were worn by people in their late 20’s that I’d class as “normal” working people so not particularly affluent.
People are making real financial sacrifices to join the club. It’s a bubble for sure.

That’s true, even if 50% were fake though I’d still liken it to an epidemic.

Funny as I was talking to a Chinese ships captain that had a nice Tag Carrera on and he mentioned, all the young Chinese are buying Tags as they know all their fathers Rolex,s are probably fake.

What other brand sells for more then MSRP on the secondary?

AP Royal Oak. There are AP ADs who sell for above MSRP but below secondary gray market prices. I would not doubt some Rolex ADs do the same. There's a decent write up on the Rolex Forums about HK grey market dealers and their relationship with ADs around this same arrangement.

What happens in China does not represent the rest of the world. Ask me how I know.

I’ve worked with Companies all over the world, and managed titles in every country but China. I refuse to. You have zero control, as you have to work via a company that is at least 51% Chinese owned. At any point the government can pass a law that stops you from doing business but not your competitors because their Chinese ownership has better ties to the government. Rolex China has basically no Rolex control. It’s the Wild West our there. How Chinese AD’s work is not like the rest of the world. Hong Kong is not much different.

Every country is different in norms but for my money China works differently then any other market. Assuming thugs work like they do inWestern Europe and the US, works in every other country... not perfectly but you will not face plant. You do that in China and your not going to make it 6 months.

Consumer behavior is alien even verses SE Asia and Korea and Japan.

2nd least desirable SS watch they have and technically it’s a bi color. The only less desirable one is the rose gold and steel bi color with the white dial.

Looks like gold not steel and the price in sing fits more with the gold too
