The Omega Speedmaster is one of the few watches that we can truly call iconic. While that must be one of the most overused words in the English language these days, it is apt in this case. But despite the Omega Speedmaster being truly iconic, I have never owned one. Worse yet, I have never […]

TL;DR - I'll never own one because it's boring and common, and there are other chronographs I like better. But don't feel bad if you like them ... it's a great watch.

You can take the speedy for a "dip in the pool"? No, it's rated for 50m, so you can go down 50m with it.

This whole article was just bizarre though. Where does he go where he sees dozens of people wearing speedmasters? In my 2.5 years in Taiwan I've seen them in the wild twice. Also, who cares if it's a popular watch ? So weird.

Another point the speedmaster is NOT 42mm. It has an asymmetric case, and is 42mm at its widest point. However, the bezel, the bit your eye actually looks at, is 39.7mm. It is not a true 42mm watch.

I understand that Omega has to list it as 42mm. However, I hate people saying it "wears smaller", without explaining WHY. The lug to lug is 47mm and the bezel is 39.7mm. So it's effectively a 40mm with crown guards.

An article "I don't know what to write this week" like there is a lot on the net. No arm done anyway.

But yes, we can buy him a ruler to find out why the Speed is not 42mm... 😀

Bizarre article for a watch collector.

I’ve re-read the article twice, and I find nothing “bizarre” about it at all.

The bulk of the article is very complimentary to the watch, and nowhere does he state that he “sees dozens of people wearing Speedmasters.” He said the watch was “ubiquitous,” implying that it’s a common watch amongst watch enthusiasts.

Tough crowd tonite.
Precisely.

How dare he like the Speedy and not buy it!? We want nothing but praise and admiration of our beloved watch. Get out the torches and hayforcks, lets storm the castle.

The word luxury needed to be in the headline.

Though I guess there are people who have never owned a watch before and buy one, or a Rolex more likely.

Just feels an expensive way to learn what you like

I agree with the general idea of the article. I'd rather have any of the Speedmaster pro variants such as the white one, Snoopy, anniversaries, Olympics, FOIS, better than the black one. I find it too dull for my taste. Happens the same with the submariner, I would only buy de "Starbucks".
