I don't see it as dissenting, and I also don't think litigating wording is worth our time.

Beyond that, I'm hopeful this is an open & welcoming place to share information and experiences versus a "proof" and "supersede" place since the internet has plenty of those already.
People here value accurate information, as this site has become somewhat of a reference site for information on Omegas. People can share anything they want, however if it contradicts established knowledge or understanding of a particular topic, you can expect it to be challenged. I don’t think many here would consider that a negative.

This is not just for technical topics like water resistance, but for others as well. If someone were to come here and tell us that some unnamed Omega watchmakers have given them information that upends well established facts about say vintage Speedmasters, I’m quite sure that there would be a lot of proof required to change people’s minds, and a great deal of push back would be expected.

You people are still talking about this??? Is the Speedmaster so boring a watch that the tread drift comes so soon and lasts so long?

Imagine the WR are like SWL markings on lifting equipment. You can safely lift 1000kg with a 1000kg strap, its made for that and inspected yearly. A 5000kg strap will do the lift just as good, maybe its a bit moore bulky, but you get 5 times lifting capasity. And IF the strap missed the yearly inspection, or if you miscalculated the lift or if the strap had a intrenal damage you did not see. You have that extra confidence.

Now strap on your Seamasters and get out there and mowe those lawmns or showel that snow, with confidence. You can even wash your hands when you are done.

It came up because the author of the article said he didn't want the Speedmaster because he goes diving a lot and he thought 50m of water resistance means you can't take it swimming.

I corrected him, and then someone tried to correct me back, and the whole argument kicked off.

In fact having done a bit of research, a Speedmaster would be perfectly fine for scuba diving, as they usually only go down to 18m.

When you say "well established facts" ...

Bought my grail Omega in June. Wore it everyday, except swimming or even washing my hands. Never operated Chrono near water and this was the result 4 months later.

same thing happened to my racing-exact ref- about 3wks ago

Just sayin.

even washing my hands.
I laugh every time I read someone say they don't wash their hands when wearing a Speedmaster. Unbelievable.

I don't just wash my hands with my Speedmaster, I wash my Speedmaster itself. I run it under the tap and use soap to clean it. Hasn't been a problem so far.

Watches have defects in production on occasion, and those defects can cause unusual damage. That’s what warranties are for.

In fact if you had fully read the comments in your smoking gun Reddit thread, you would have seen this from the OP…

“Its warranty, they acknowledged it was not anything I did.”

If you cannot separate that from the design capabilities of the watch, then there’s no point in trying to reason with you…just sayin…

Hey-

What exactly is it that you are saying? This person didn't take their watch swimming. This person didn't even wear their watch while washing their hands. How does this support your earlier comments?

What is it that you want me to take away from a situation in which there was an unfortunate seal failure?

Exactly. As much as companies try, occasionally a defective product slips through the net. That doesn't change the fact that all Omega watches are designed to be used at their specified depth rating.

Thought this cat might be a bit more appropriate.

Due to the subject.

He looks amazingly calm for a kitty in a tub!
