Speedy Pro 1861 - what to do with the big box?!

When I recently traded my 1861 on a 3861, my AD told me the kit added at least $800 to it's trade value. It was a full kit, including an unworn bracelet with all links (I wore the 1861 on a deployant strap) with all the boxes and sleeves including the hang tag. It never made it into the pre-owned case, after the prerequisite testing, it was sold with a phone call. Definitely worth keeping.

Thanks for sharing your experience. 😀

I'd keep it. I kept mine. I love having the whole set just like I bought it. But that's just me.

OMG, this is absolutely awesome!!!

I used to have the previous iteration of Sapphire Sandwich, which I sold end of last year and got the FOIS. Then when I had FOIS I missed the big moonwatch box. I was lucky to buy brand new box with all amendities inside, just because I liked it 😀. But then I realised it's just a big box on the shelf for nothing. Now I know how to use it...

Yeah that is pretty great! I missed this one in the thread. Amazing job!

It makes a good suitcase.

Don’t forget to check-in, though, as it’s too big for the cabin…

That is what I did :0)….. having said that just bought a new one (Speedy) and I am missing the big box...… but not enough to want it back :0)

Perfect 😁
Surprisingly heavy as well. The first time on opening the box, I was half expecting to find some moon rock hidden inside it somewhere!

Have someone converted the “small” Speedmaster 3861 box into a strap box? Recently sold my Speedmaster Legendary Moonwatch “big box”, which first converted to a watch box and later into an accessories box, as was too big to be practical on my safe / vault at 12 1/2 inches wide x 8 3/4 inches long x 4 2/5 inches outside dimension:

Am now considering converting a spare “small” Speedmaster 3861 box into a strap box, which would have about 7 1/2 inches wide x 5 1/2 inches length x 2 inches size on its bottom side (as shown below), enough to substitute several Omega red service cases which currently use to store my bands and bracelets. 😀

I’ll usually keep everything. Even if the value proposition doesn’t entirely even out, I think it’s easier to sell a watch with its original box and papers.

Keep everything that came with the watch. It increases your resale value more than you think. It also makes it easier to sell.

Awesome! I'm thinking of getting a box just to do this mod! Can someone please inform me as to what the difference is between these two boxes?

Tthey are quite different in size and features. The older “big box” has a metal medallion inside and some pockets to store a loupe, among other things, the size is bigger as stated above:

The current / newer Speedmaster box is smaller (size above) and has a removable, travel case for the watch:

In terms of use the newer box is more practical and takes less space; in terms of use for something else (convert them into a jewerly box or a multiple watch box) each has its advantages.

Awesome, thank you! Do you happen to know the approximate dimensions of each?

Oh sorry now I see that! So have you converted the small one yet?

After reading this I am now thinking about selling mine. I have no plans of selling the watch and the box is taking up a lot of closet space.

Meh… live a little 😉

I converted my box a couple years ago and I’m glad I did. Had the insert custom made out of wood and covered by someone far more skilled than I. They custom made the pillows too and I have been super happy with the result.

This always cracks me up, a watch box intruding so much that an owner feels he needs to sell it to free up closet space. 😕

Sold listings eBay are under $200, not ther Six or eight hundred mentioned it the post. For that I have plenty of room in my closet. Glad I could make you chuckle. 😉
