Speedy Pro 1861 - what to do with the big box?!

Hello

I am happy to have purchased the now discontinued Speedy Pro 1861 Hesalite. This watch was on my radar for a number of years and a couple of months ago became the time to get it.

My question is, what to do with the 'collectors' large box and accessories, and the unworn unsized bracelet? I am not going to wear any of these straps or bracelet and the big box is simply packed away.

I am tempted to sell the lot - but what do you think, would I significantly devalue the watch?
(I would keep the book and cards and I have an Omega wooden watch box for it.)

Thanks in advance.

ps. a pic is always welcome!

Hello and congratulations on your new Speedmaster!

The best laid plans are always subject to change IMHO. I would recommend keeping the box and all accessories just in case.

The primary reason why I would never consider buying a second hand watch without all the boxes and papers is the fear that it might be stolen.

Best regards,
Frank

OP, you can't find a spot in a closet to store the box? I bet you have all kinds of crap stored away that you'll never use. Personally I never can understand why people want to throw out the box and accessories. Just keep it, you never know what the future will bring and you may find you want to sell it for cash or to upgrade to another watch, and then the total package is an asset.

Find a place to store it. Because like others have said...who knows.

yeah, keep it. you may never know if one day you do feel like changing or trying the bracelet or strap (it happens to us all). Most importantly, if you ever sell it, it will be easier to sell asa full set.

Put the watch on the bracelet firstly and get it sized. Then sell the rest and spend the money on cool straps you like. (If it’s a watch your going to keep)

I wouldn’t sell the bracelet.

Not that I'm interested in selling, but what do these full set boxes go for anyway?
A quick search of the Google says anywhere between $400 and up to $1000 depending on contents.
Is that real world selling prices though?

$600 to $800 has been a steady price for everything minus the watch and bracelet.

Rather than storing some of the nicer boxes away i.e. Breguet/ Blancpain and Omega ones, I tend to empty the inserts and dot them around the house and use them to store loose change, wallets etc.It certainly puts them to use and the ones made of real veneered timbers look rather nice.

It makes a good suitcase.

Don’t forget to check-in, though, as it’s too big for the cabin…

Thanks for all your replies.

I do think I am going to keep it. I don't think I will ever use the bracelet.
My smaller wrist (yawn, that old issue) not so great with the stock bracelet but great with the Uncle Seiko 1171 and Forstner 1035 Flat Link.

If there is considerable value in the box, bracelet, accessories then that would be great for me to sell. I would still have a 'set' with omega wooden box and papers. If what I could get for the box etc £££ covers the difference in value of the watch without it all then that's ok I guess?

And yes, a couple of custom leather straps to work with Omega deployment and the new black nylon deployment strap would be great for me too!

I am in the same predicament. I bought a new 1861 with bracelet. I don't have much interest in the box, magnifying glass, straps and boxes. Or boxes.
I bought the watch for £3875 and think if I sold everything and kept watch then I might bring back £1000 giving me a new speedy for £2875 and buy the leather strap or nato that I want.
But as people say, selling with full set is easier. But I never know if I would have to sell it.

The easy way to see it is:

1-Value of box: $600 to $800 ( I think $1000 is a bit much)
2-Value of the watch on secondary market Full Set:? XXX
3-Value of the watch on secondary market without Box:? XX
4-Possible Devaluation of the watch without a box:? X

5-Differential (positive or negative) between amount on line 1 and amount on line 4?

Fill in the right amounts for the last 3 questions and calculate Line 5 and your predicament becomes much easier to answer.

this Sold thread had an Apollo 11 50SS without B&P so 2~4 could be good data point albeit it being an LE:

When I recently traded my 1861 on a 3861, my AD told me the kit added at least $800 to it's trade value. It was a full kit, including an unworn bracelet with all links (I wore the 1861 on a deployant strap) with all the boxes and sleeves including the hang tag. It never made it into the pre-owned case, after the prerequisite testing, it was sold with a phone call. Definitely worth keeping.
