Speedy or Diver 300m ?

Hello guys! I'm on the market for my first watch.
I'm in love with the Speedmaster, but i don't know if its the right one for me. I really want my first watch as an EDC. Some guys on Internet says the Speedy is not WR. I will not take shower with it but i'm wondering if i can wash my hands, give my children a bath, things like that. I'm considering buying one new or almost new (may be the 1861 hesalite).

I also really like the diver 300m. Of course i guess it will be no problem for water but i heard the ceramic can be fragile ? My job is not that manual and my plan is not to have this watch in a brand new condition after a couple of years but i'm definitely looking for a solid watch.

I prefer the Speedy but i'm wondering wich one will be the best for everyday use.

Thank you guys.

Read this and you won't have any doubts about WR of the speedy:

https://omegaforums.net/threads/anyone-go-swimming-with-a-speedmaster.47840/page-9#post-1880167

Amazing, thank you. So the 50M of the Speedy is enough for everyday. And i can go underwater if needed. I don't get why this topic is so divised when it come to talk about the WR of the speedmaster when clear reply like that can be found. I guess the thing is to NOT ask this question on Facebook ahah.
Thanks

You’ll be fine with the Speedy. How often are you actually in 50M of water?

Welcome. It sounds like you really want the Speedy, so I suggest buying it and don't over-think the water resistance. You will get a lot of pleasure from it.

I would go with a new1861 Speedy if you can find it. The SMP s are in abundance at this time.

i have a few1861/861 speedmasters, but my first omega was speedmaster professional 3570.50

speedmaster pro is a gateway watch (just like gateway drug) once you started it likely leads to other more omegas

i faithfully follow the manufacturers written instruction as much as i can understand best which says to stay 50 meters away from water (plagiarized from an OF member @Walrus )

The real question, if you’re the type to join a watch forum, is which one FIRST. Sorry :-(

I’ve got both, although my Seamaster is a quartz from about 2002.

If you really, really think you’ll be able to stick to just one watch, Speedmaster every time. There’s something special about winding it every morning, a proper bonding moment.

I was in the same scenario a few months ago. The only real answer is both 😀

answer in single transaction, instead of separate purchases is the trology box, but only for those retro-style inspired

https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/...models/seamaster-300/the-1957-trilogy/product

it also solves the problem of bracelet vs nato vs leather, all included

but mine are add on straps, personally did not like the leather styles they came in the box

Both watches cover pretty much all your bases.
I started with a Seamaster Pro and ended up getting a Speedy as well:

Thanks for posting. Very interesting. I didn't realise that all watches in a Trilogy set come with the limited edition number on the dial.

Go for the superior watch; go for the Seamaster!

The Seamaster is automatic, it has a date function, it has a much better crystal, its smaller and thinner, it has a diving bezel (frozen pizza timer) and it is less expensive.

Even if the WR of the Speedmaster is suffisicent, halve of this forum is filled with treads like " can I swim with my Speedy?" or " Can I wash my hands without taking my speedy of" or can I have a cup of tea without ruining my speedmaster?" or " My children are leaking in both ends, is my speedy safe or do I need to send the children away?" Why worry just get the watch with 300m WR and forget about it.

If you go for the Seamaster you will be content. You will be satisfied every time you look at your wrist, thinking: " God damned thats a beautiful watch" People that go for the Speedy seem to think " Oh no! my dot isnt over the 90" or " this is so boring, I must have this limited edition overpriced cartoon something-something"

On top of that; the laser cutter in the bezel pip are handy to have, even if you dont get captured by North Koreans or any other evil force hell bent on seeing the world burn. I use the laser mostly to open clamshell packaging.

You dont need both, you just need a Seamaster!

As @hen just put it, perfectly I might add, I would highly recommend the Seamaster 300M.

I started looking for a TAG, then was drawn to Breitling, but the Omega display case just screamed at me when I caught glimpse of the Seamaster.

I had a list of requirements for my first proper watch, with a chronograph being at the top. Not to actually use, but to be a more interesting face.

As soon as I tried the Seamaster on I soon realised I didn’t need the chronograph as the wave design with laser cut outs was so well executed and the simplicity of the rest of the watch just works perfectly.

Had it on my wrist non stop for past 2.5 weeks and just love looking at it!

I also recommend the getting it on the bracelet. It’s just a work of art. Not as bling as the Breitling, which was just too much for my style, but works in both casual and smart situations. The subtle polished elements make it stand out just enough.

As for the laser, mine is on the security setting which instantly vaporises any potential intruders within 15 feet of the watch whilst I sleep. Have also used it for convincing the local pigeons from nesting in my Sky dish again this year. They’re not coming back, believe me.

Have you tried the speedy bracelet on the seamaster? Very interested to see what that might look like. I have the speedy, thinking of picking up a 300m soon

Exactly the opposite of all this ...

I was in your position and was looking at the Seamaster initially. I started off with the Speedy cause it was unlike any other watch being a manual chrono.... and I love it.

But beware, the other watch will haunt you in your dreams... and you will eventually end up with both!
