Speedmaster reduced has problems

I would write back and explain that it's impossible to get an estimate that quickly, and ask for an extension. Worth a shot.
Could I call them over something like this..or is it better to email?

I would call and follow up with an email stating exactly what eBay told you in the phone call.

If my reading of the timeline is correct, this all transpired last week, correct? I'm not sure I understand the short timeframe eBay has given you.

A couple of years ago, I mistakenly sold a Seiko diver as being all original. 45 days after I sold it, the buyer filed a dispute stating it wasn't (his research was indisputable) and I had to return his money. The person who sold it to me as all original got off scot-free because eBay was not at all interested when I filed a dispute. This quick turnaround has me scratching my head.

They did say that they would need a summary of parts that needed to be replaced/repaired specifically for that watch. seems the only way to get something thats specific is to send it in..no?
On this watch they swap the movement with a new one and put in a refurbished movement. As noted in many places on this forum even Watch makers that own this watch do not service them.

Get the quote from an OB it will have all info...

This might sound dumb..but whats an OB?
Omega boutique. Go to omegas website, find the nearest boutique, call and ask for a repair quote via email for that watch.

Ok, just got off of the phone with Ebay. They told me they would grant me a three day extension past 5/26 to get an estimate from Omega. They said they would need something more specific than just a baseline of what it would cost to service this particular model, since this watch that I have could have issues that may end up costing more to fix than the baseline. I will ship it out first thing tomorrow and hope for the best.

It's highly unlikely you'll get an estimate in time. Furthermore, don't Omega charge for the inspection if you don't go ahead with the work.

I've never heard of someone having to jump through these hoops to get a return. Have you tried the fact that the dial isn't in the condition that the pictures suggested? This doesn't require a watchmaker to see it.

Yup, told them that over the phone...and they have the pics I attached to the claim to get ebay involved. To be honest..all of this hoop jumping makes me want to just say forget it..but I know I would absolutely regret that decision..as others have said.

I would speak to a manager. The timeline they have demanded is totally unrealistic.

I wouldn't send it anywhere and instead open a PayPal dispute

From eBay's terms:
  • If you did not receive the item, or the item is not as described, you have 30 days from your actual or latest estimated delivery date to open a request, under the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
  • When an item doesn't match the listing description
If a buyer receives an item that doesn't match the listing description, the buyer needs to request a return from My eBay. The seller should address the buyer's concern and offer a solution, such as accepting a return, offering a replacement or refund.

If the buyer doesn't receive a response or solution, or returns the item but doesn't receive a refund or replacement from the seller, the buyer can ask us to step in and help.

If asked to step in and help, we review the item description, photos of the item, if provided by the buyer or seller, and any other information about the item that the buyer and seller provide. If we can't determine that the item matches the listing description, if the seller has already offered a return, or the seller's stated return window and policy applies, we may ask the buyer to return the item to the seller.

I agree that that doesn't sound at all like eBay. I would have expected that they would tell you to send the watch back for a full refund without any 'hoops'. Totally ridiculous to be required to send the watch to a third party for eval.; and especially ridiculous to only have 6 days!

Perhaps the people at PayPal will be more reasonable...

Edit: ... and then there's the eBay policy efauser just posted 👍

That's probably the best route to go.

PayPal will push back to eBay if there is already a case opened. You should try any local watchmaker who has an Omega account (so you can claim it is authorized). It is easier for you get a more detailed description of the repairs from the local watchmaker, and it will help.

Man you're in New York! You can't tell me you can't find a competent watch maker within an hour or to to give you a detailed estimate to get this repaired!

Do not spent the money to overnight your watch somewhere and then expect the seller to reimburse you. I would contact eBay again and tell them what they're own policy is. Hell you have 30 days in general just to report it, so 6 days doesn't even make sense!

Are you making this entire thing up???

I could of also sworn that you were specifically told to expect to have to serice any speedy you decided to go with when it comes to the reduced.....if you paid full price for this in general, I think this whole thing is on you.

Update:

I looked back through the thread and saw that you paid $1,750???? Is that right?? Without box, paperwork, no service history on a 13 year old piece and you didn't factor in a servicing?
Or am I out of line with my thinking?

Of course he doesn't want a return, he did well on that piece at that price without having to service it 😀
