Speedmaster reduced has problems

Man you're in New York! You can't tell me you can't find a competent watch maker within an hour or to to give you a detailed estimate to get this repaired!

Do not spent the money to overnight your watch somewhere and then expect the seller to reimburse you. I would contact eBay again and tell them what they're own policy is. Hell you have 30 days in general just to report it, so 6 days doesn't even make sense!

Are you making this entire thing up???

I could of also sworn that you were specifically told to expect to have to serice any speedy you decided to go with when it comes to the reduced.....if you paid full price for this in general, I think this whole thing is on you.

I am absolutely not making this up. Fortunately, up until this point I've never had an issue with any watch I've bought on Ebay being not as described..so all of this is very new to me when it comes to opening disputes on Ebay.

I have had two disputes opened against me (one I referred to earlier), the other was a watch that worked perfectly when I mailed it to Australia, well enough that the buyer gave me positive feedback. A couple of weeks later, a dispute was filed because the watch wasn't working. Supposedly the buyer took it to his watchmaker who told him it had a broken balance staff. He said he'd keep the watch if I paid the service fee; a mere 300.00 AUD. He bought the watch for $350 USD.

I complained to eBay that the watch worked perfectly when shipped and the seller gave me positive feedback when he received it. Didn't matter, eBay ruled against me. I got the watch back, had the balance staff replaced for $30.00 and sold it for $100.00 more.

The bottom line: Unless something is very fishy, eBay isn't going to rule against you.

At that price why didn't you just purchase from a fellow member on the forums? I just looked @WatchVaultNYC 's stock and he has freshly serviced pieces even cheaper then you paid for that one!

Exactly. The nay reason why Im taking it this far is simply because the watch isn't as described..plain and simple. It was described by the seller as "looks and works amazingly." The chronograph doesn't fully reset to zero, the minute hand jumps when its started, and the subdial counting seconds freezes for a second when the chrono is engaged..clearly not working "amazingly" I get that these have issues from time to time and all mechanical watches need a service(heck, I just paid almost $900 last year to have my 80s Air King worked on). Im not disputing any of that. I would have never bought it if I had been told how messed up the watch truly is.

Im going to continue with obtaining the estimate and hopefully it will work out. Im not pulling any shady shit..so I don't see why it wouldn't as you further reiterated.

I said "fishy", by the way.

I was foolish not to have gone down that route, I admit that. I thought that the one I would get on Ebay would be a good one, because it looked fine in the pics, and the seller had 100% positive feedback(not always great indicators, I've come to find out). I guess I was just a little overly confidant since I have bought several higher end pieces on Ebay in the past without any issues.

I figured, even if I overpaid a bit, that the watch would be in fine shape, and I would be happy with it, so in the end it wouldn't bother me that I overpaid a bit on Ebay. Obviously, I didn't at all expect it to be anything like it is in reality. I just want to be rid of it..have my money back and try to forget this whole mistake..and in the future buy from a trusted seller here. In fact, I've already put my name on a wait list for WatchVaultNYC for a blue 3511.80.

I don't know if it was eBay or PayPal, but I wrote a letter for a customer about a watch in dispute and I recall the time frame he was given to provide it was very tight.

It seems that they just have a very tight time frame..unfortunately. Im glad they were willing to give me an extension..but I sure wish it was longer that 3 days past the 26th.

I took a risk and got burned unfortunately..I admit that.
You're certainly not the first and won't be the last but I sure as hell hope, when you ask for opinions in the future, you pay attention to them.

Considering one of those days is a holiday and 2 are the weekend.

Are you seriously asking that question? I think getting an answer by the 26th is unreasonable but something tells me there's more to this than we've been told.
Hmmmm....the plot thickens....very strange for eBay to ask you to get a service estimate...surely that's not your problem...?!

What I don't understand is what does the service have to do with anything really. The watch was described as working and in good condition and its neither of those things. why would eBay want you to get a quote for a service to repair it? if it needs repair, it's SNAP to begin with

Thats what I thought. Believe me, I'm not making anything up..just reporting what Ebay has told me.

This will be my last post on the subject but I would ask eBay to show you where in their terms is that a requirement?

Whatever happens in the end I would rid yourself of it and start over even if it means selling it ata loss. While I am
sure you now have a sour taste in your mouth on any speedy reduced, it's actually a great watch and you just ended up with a raw deal. Maybe an upside to the whole mess....seek out at 3539.50 instead of your 3510.50. If you have small wrists (as do I ), it's the closet you get visually to a speedy pro. I have had one for many years and it's been flawless. Differences are the dial (no numbers below the hour markers), a sapphire crystal, and far improved clasp.
