The speedmaster101 site is fantastic and was a great resource to me as I looked to buy a 105.012 or 145.012. So, thank you Spacefruit!

I also appreciate the rapid updates. The latest DON90 adjustments keep the prices fresh and give more insight to the immediate market.

I look forward to each month's update an md new blog posts.

I did look at Chrono24, but the prices seem way high in my observation, so I no longer bother.

I just looked up Ed Whites on eBay to get sense what has sold (I did not look at the details of any of these) and while only three sold in the last 2.5 months, nothing over $7500. Compare that to the listings on CHRONO24....Average list price is $12k?!?

i think by doing so you compare 2 different "concepts" of prices:
ebay: ACTUALprices
chr24: "PRE-NEGOTIATION-LIST PRICES" I can see the one there @ $8.8k go for high 7( and that = ebay prices)

i personally would keep the ebay-bin @ 5.7k out of statistics as that price is a function of one uninformed contract pa.rty (sure it went w/in hours) rather than the market price ... i would also keep the one @12k on c24 out of the stats, for the same reason (should it sell) ... both are sucker prices (as opposed to market prices)

Why is @Spacefruit behind the most accurate price guide for vintage speedmasters? Simple - it's built on knowledge and observation rather than agenda and ulterior motives.

that is one way to look at it ...

there is another (mathematical) way to look at it as well ... if in a steeply increasing market (like speedies for the past 6 or so months) - you are working with HISTORIC data, you will CONSISTENTLY "underestimate" prices. (The opposite is true for a falling market)

That is a statistical/mathematical fact and has nothing to do with being a good/bad guy ;-) 馃憤

So, here is a beautiful 2998-6 for sale with Oredelmondo, It's much nicer than the 2998s I have seen on Chrono24 and I don't think I've seen another like this that hadn't already sold by the time I saw the listing. I like the fact that the watch was sold in Japan originally - exotic and romantic story. But is this the real price of acquiring a good 2998?

(Apart from salivating over their stock, I don't have any connection with Oredelmondo)

I don't recall. I thought maybe VisionVintageWacthes as he does a lot of hand pictures, but I couldn't find pics with the same rings. I've sure I've seen them before, just can't place them.

Are the lume plots anything to worry about? They look very odd. I'd expect the paint to show through in places where the lume has crumbled.

Still, definitely one of th nicer ones to come up lately.

First of all - a lot of people need go realize that the chart is subjective to one man's experience and research. You should be thankful it provides some sort of clarity in terms of value. Using it as a define all list is poor form. Do your own research if you disagree and decide what market is for you. Wild swings in terms of auction house pricing or the occasional person who is willing to pay a high premium for a particular piece is not the norm.

Yes I saw this - it looks nice but some legimacy worries that the seller may well be able to allay.

Brilliant - as ever - William. I feel a bit foolish posting when I should have checked out 101 first.

Never feel foolish. Its all good.

Sometimes I miss these things and get pointers from here.

Especially when family and work is distracting.

On the topic of the extract, it would be nice to know if it's pre-2010. I would have to guess that it is as I have been unsuccessful getting extracts in 17m, 18m and 19m for 2998's.

CK2915-1 good 700,000 馃槈
Oops - yes missed that!
Updated now, along with a new category ; VAP
Valued As Parts.
I am using this as there are no "poor"2998's traded now, or recently. Only basket cases so they can only be valued by their constituent parts, or lack of them.

There is currently a big difference between the 2998-1 and 2998-2 in the collector category. I am not sure if this will play out on the next few trades, but it is only a reflection of past trades.

Could it be that new collectors want the -1's?

More will be revealed:

Have there been any 2998-2 collector sales recently? The Christie's -1 was in much better condition than the auctions of -2s in recent years, IMO. And I haven't been aware of any others, though my visibility into the market is limited to big auctions, eBay, and here.
