Certainly appears to be a gap between the tension ring and the edge of the dial...
This was the dial that is in there. Now I am not so sure what part of the watch that gold ring is around the dial. You guys are incredible! Thanks for pointing it out. Good to know

The tension ring on the watch that was the inspiration to your mod is gold coloured. But almost all modern Speedmasters have a black tension ring and most likely was/is black on the watch case you modified. Or actually on the crystal. It really looks like it is missing on your pictures though.

Mod advice please? I have all the dials and hands to do either the Mitsukoshi Mod (with silver hands) or the Paramedic Mod (with white Italian dial, black hands, red sweep second, and pulsations bezel). I recently traded for a 3570.50 in mint condition to apply these parts.

My watchmaker serviced my 76 Speedy 3.5 yr ago and it runs like a dream, so I figure I can mod a 4 yr old 3570.50 and he can service this one as well without having to return it to stock and send to Omega next year (also I have one set of spare pushers, crown, crystal, bezel, white hands, plus a few mainsprings just in case it did need parts).

I'm leaning towards the Paramedic Mod, but my watch maker thinks maybe I should do the Mitsukoshi mod or leave it original as he likes the black dial a lot. I do like the black dial too, and so I never modded my 76 Speedy which would be an abomination. I don't know if I really should mod with it running within 1-2 sec/day of atomic and looking great.

I really like the white dial on a Speedy (loved Silver Snoopy Award dial). And think the black hands and red sweep second on white dial really pop! I don't think I've ever used the original tachymetre to calculate the speed of a vehicle across a mile, and the pulsations bezel could be more useful, although I'm not sure it looks better than the original bezel.

I worry that the Mitsukoshi might make my Speedmaster look a little smaller on my wrist (see pic two post up). It's just a feeling I get from looking at the panda dial, and my CK2998 LE certainly wore small and I sold it. When I see them now, I think "Hmmm, black on white makes the sub-dials look too close together". Also, for some reason, I think the Mitsukoshi Mod looks better on a sapphire sandwich - more elegant and less tool-ly.

What say you guys? Which mod do you think I should do, if at all, and why? Here is a photo of a Paramedic Mod, and my parts.

That’s certainly a beautiful looking Speedy, I like the contrast with the red Chrono hand, and the black strap complements it perfectly. It looks great day or night!

I have larger wrists and I’ve never felt that my Apollo 11 35th mod looked small, and I wear it often.

You have a black dial Speedy so the Paramedic mod is what I’d do if I were you. I debated getting a red Chrono hand for my mod because I like the color accent.

I like the look.

It's a little "Mondainey" but I like it.

but then again I don't like Sheepmasters anyway 😀

Thanks for the help. It looks like 3 votes agreeing on the white dial mod.

Also, I have 2 extra sets of all black hour/minute hands, but only the one set with the white central/black distal hour/minute hands as seen in my attached photos above. I do prefer the mod with the white/black hands as in the photo, but I wont have spares of that set unfortunately (they look almost as if they were Cal 865 hands).

Since the watch will be 5 yr old in October, I have to consider whether I'd like it to be serviced sooner by my independent when he installs the parts, or whether to wait to mod until after I send it to Omega for it's first service. If It goes to omega for service then I may be adverse to doing the mods before the 2 yr warranty is up, so I'll discuss with my watchmaker.

Here is another person's watch showing how the all black hands would look, which to me is not quite as cool as the white/black hour/minute, or the red sweep second (I have 2 red sweep seconds, so 1 is a spare, but also 1 black sweep second just in case). I prefer the red sweep second and hour/minute hands with the white center, as on the other watch.

I think the Paramedic Mod looks fantastic. I would definitely go that route. I also think the pulsations bezel is an important part of that mod. I'd do the whole thing if I were you. Looks great!

Welcome to the Madhouse!
Here's my poorman's 2915-1. The base watch's a 3590.50, with the bezel, hands and caseback changed. Save for the caseback, all replacement parts are genuine Omega parts sourced from Ofrei. In addition, the hands and dial were artificially aged.

I embarked on the project out of curiosity, and the watch's dissembled and restored to its original state and, together with its parts, sold.

This thread makes me feel more and more confortable about modding.
After all what harm is there. These are all original parts, I am doing the modification for my own personal pleasure, and if I sell one day, I will be clear and open on what it is I am selling.

I am only worried about maintenance however. (Experience on that point welcome).

I think this one looks great. Looks like reference 3594.50. I tend to prefer it over the 60th anniversary and the FOIS.

My vote goes for paramedic as well yet if you want to mock up the paramilitary Italian speedy with the cream dial and grey hands, there is a seller in UK that has these hands (they sell for a fortune though).

I'm thinking about adding a metal bezel to my mitsukoshi mod to give it more of a MK1 Daytona look. Before:
