Dears,

I would like to discuss with the community a troubling experience I have had with Omega and I seek advice on what I should do. I purchased my watch, a Speedmaster Moonwatch Sapphire new from Hong Kong Boutique in February this year. It was working well, but after about 3 months, I noticed that it is losing time progressively every day to the point it was losing almost a minute a day. I submitted the watch to Bangkok boutique and they confirmed the watch has lost amplitude. They recommended I send it to service, and said it will take about 2 months! I requested a replacement as I don’t think a new watch breaking down after 3 months is a normal warranty claim. The manager of the Bangkok boutique said she will try to request replacement but them called me back saying no, so i sent it to service for the meantime. I contacted Hong Kong boutique asking by for a replacement and they also said that Bangkok center will just fix the watch and no replacement to be offered. Now I have to stay in Thailand for several weeks waiting for my watch, that I don’t trust it will come back working properly as breaking down after 3 months is a red flag that something is seriously wrong with the movement.
I think Omega should consider replacing the watch in my case but unfortunately I have not got what I expected, and I truly regret buying from Omega. But I am entangled now with them and I need advice on what is best to do in this situation.
Thank you for reading.

Hi Umar,

It's a pity that your new Speedmaster stopped working properly after such a short time. As for advice, you should have Omega repair the watch since they've declined to replace it. When you receive your watch back from service, you can either enjoy it or sell it. Unless I'm missing something, those are your options.

Well it is a pity, but should it be my pity or Omega’s pity?

Unfortunately, it happens to a small percentage which make it through quality control and checks. These are mass produced luxury watches, not a hand machined, polished, finished watch by a single watchmaker from start to finish.

I understand your frustration and disappointment in purchasing a watch with your own money and it did not work properly for more than a few months. But it is getting repaired and will be back on your wrist soon.

I get you believe Omega should swap your watch for a new one since they sold you a defective product. But at the time it was sold, it did not have the issue. The issue showed up a few months later.

It's the same as buying a car and something breaks three months later. Do you expect the dealer to swap cars since something broke on yours? No, they will take it to the repair shop and fix the issue. This is the same thing Omega is doing with your watch.

Sorry to hear about your experience but it will be fixed soon.

You bought a watch with warranty, they at least should have a chance to repair it so that's your pity. I'ts their pity they have to service it without charge.

I sympathise but i think you are over reacting a little.
A watch movement is a finely tuned piece of very small machinery and things can go wrong.
It's not a MoonSwatch or an Iwatch.
They are following standard practice and there's every chance it will come back to you free of any liabilities.

I had an outboard motor once that was repaired under warranty without issue twice within two weeks due to the same issue.
It was one of the best machines i ever had at my disposal for a great many years and never gave me any trouble.

Is it necessary for you to wait for it and pick it up in Thailand? I'd like to think Omega would be willing to have it returned to you via the boutique that is most convenient for you.

I submitted it to Thailand so i take it back in Thailand. Honestly, the service has been subpar and I think they don’t care. Most of the expressed niceness is performative. I can’t believe I trusted Omega and made such a purchase.

That's what a warranty is for. When you bought a watch, you implicitly agreed to certain terms. There was probably a short return period, followed by a warranty period. Now you are in the warranty period. Omega watches are generally solid quality, and the vast majority don't break in a few months, nobody knows how it happened. You had bad luck or maybe something you did caused the problem, but I think you are over-reacting with all the drama.

EDIT: It seems like you were determined to be unhappy with the watch from the beginning:

Best advice: take it back to the store and let them fix the issue under warranty. Then when it’s done pick up your freshly serviced watch for free. By buying the watch you agreed to these warranty terms. You can wear the watch for 5 years and abuse it and they will just get your problems fixed.

What do you want us to say? Take it to court and demand a replacement watch (preferably a gold Speedmaster for your inconvenience)? Or that they should have treated you better, and should have been more sincere and polite in the service process? You present them with a problem and they are going to fix it for you. You would like them to deal with you emotions more carefully? Or would you just like to complain about it on the internet and have other people tell you it’s not fair?

Shit happens. My new white 3861, one of the first ones out in 2024, only ran 8 hours on a full wind. That's what warranty is for. Yes, it took a couple months, but it now runs 8 hours longer than the stated 50 hours.

Much more and we will have to let the cats loose.......
Who knows? Perhaps a cat played the “gravity game” off the dresser.

It is absolutely a normal warranty claim.

I need advice on what is best to do in this situation.
Wait for the service to be completed, and either keep or sell the watch.

@UmarKhan: you joined Omega Forums in March 2026. Threads and posts indicate dissatisfaction with your watch in combination with an unwillingness to heed the advice of experienced watch people kind enough to share their knowledge and suggestions.

Insults and charges of ‘troll’ ensue.

Please be mindful that you are part of a community of individuals who are here to share their appreciation of timepieces and timekeeping. Be a mensch, as they say, put on the big lad pants and by all means join in. But if being disrespectful and chronically disappointed is preferred, best stay quiet.

Good luck with the Speedmaster. Seriously great watch. I love mine. In the meantime, I’ll sit bummed-out in the corner with my METAS-certified 2023 Aqua Terra; since Saturday, it’s lost seven seconds.

(That’s 0.99998% accuracy. I’m more than OK with it.)
