    Hi all!

Not to sound creepy but I have been a lurker but never posted. It was so easy to find answers to questions i have using the search tool. But alas, iI have to start somewhere and try to get to 200 post and be a more active member and hopefully be able to contribute.

Is there a thread for member’s modified (put-together) Speedies? Can’t find any except for comments posted. The word Mods are used often but for the meaning I am searching for.

    Here is mine.

White German dial released in the 80s
    Modern 1861 movement
    Hands from Ottofrei
    Bezel from Ebay

    Thanks!

You don't need 200 posts to contribute, only to sell.
I'm looking forward to your first for sale post. Welcome by the way.

Is this a sapphire crystal? and/or is it missing the crystal ring?

I don’t think I’ll be selling soon lol. I almost missed out on a watch I really wanted to buy and panicked about the ‘not enough privileges’ part of the post.

I usually find sarcasm funny. But you just proved why I have only been reading this past couple of years. Some people are quick to jump the gun. In any case, I can’t wait to be a more productive member.

Hesalite. I should have gone all the way and did the build on a sandwich speedh instead. Oh well. The bezel apparently was a little painful to replace. There were some micro lathing involved.

Love what you've done with it! The white dial works really well with the hands, and I always love seeing pulsations bezels.:)

    Hi and welcome
I posted my mod a while ago and although I expected some negative comments all were positive. (”All” being very few actually, but that does not matter)
As long as its only genuine parts and you are open about the watch being a mod I think there is no damage done.

    Looks great!

I figured I have 1 speedy in my lifetime to modify and do whatever the hell I want with it.

The seller of the dial claimed it was made in ‘83. (My birthyear). MWO doesnt specify the exact year of these watches and I have no reason to (maybe i refused to) question the seller. So I built around the dial. Didn’t wanna spend too much momey on a gold bezel, i prefer the cleaner look of the pulsation bezel anyway.

I think you did the right thing in keeping everything else in steel.

I call them hot rods. A few get posted here every year. I’ve thought about doing an Italian dial myself.

No harm or foul as long as it doesn’t get marketed as a prototype later.

The dial looks really big inside the case and cicindela asked about the tension ring being missing or not. Its a metal ring on the inside of the crystal, normally black. Called rehaut afaik.
Can you see if its there?

It's not just a silver tension ring?

You just created one, so yes!

I have a modified Apollo 11 35th Anniversary LE speedy (bought a modern Speedy from a grey seller, got the special dial and hands off an Ebay seller and had a local watchmaker do a swap).

This week ordered a similarly modified Gemini IV reverse panda Speedy from this very forum. The watch has been delivered to my office (I’m away on business) and my assistant is holding it for me.

There are others here with modified Speedies, and as already mentioned, the key is to always be totally open and honest about it.

Cool. This is gonna be the only one. It was a hard decision whether or not to sacrifice a speedy body for a project

No that is not what we are talking about. We are talking about the entire edge of the dial being exposed

    Should look like this:

Certainly appears to be a gap between the tension ring and the edge of the dial...
