Thank you for your thoughts. As I have said I could be completely wrong but I see this 1861 legendary moon watch edition a great buy. The new Speedmaster is a bit of a hike in price for a watch again in my humble opinion is more of step away from the original than the 1861. Better in many ways technically but the 1861 is I think closer to the watches worn by the NASA astronauts? This could be a good thing in 18-20 yrs but it is a total guess. Peter.
I have heard that the 3861 will be used by NASA, they just aren't planning any trips to Space for the next few years. Remember that NASA also used the X-33 for space flight. It was referred to as the Marswatch. I think that this has changed as you would need to change batteries
LOL

I agree with the comment above, buy it for yourself, enjoy it and then pass it down. Who knows, he might not be into speedmasters when he's older, but he will be into it because you wore it regardless of the model or brand.

A small update. My gorgeous planet ocean which was a gift from my amazing wife for my 60th Birthday. It’s now 3 years old and is like brand new. Amazingly accurate and a great watch. I think of when she gave it me every time I check out the time.
