I'm not so sure Omega execs or designers read this post...
The general look & feel of the 50th anniversary Apollo 11 Speedmaster should be like a late 1960s version (steel case, hesalite, classic black dial with applied logo, new version of a DON bezel) and manual wind but I wouldn't be against a coaxial escapement movement as we should also celebrate 45 years of this movement since it was conceived by the Einstein of watchmaking George Daniels !

To Omega: my short wish list for the Apollo 11 50th:

1. Nice box (like Apollo 11 or 13' 45th) with Buzz Aldrin and Mike Collins' actual, not printed signatures (hurry ...)
2. Documentation inside about 1st landing and Buzz 's Speedmaster reference (say 105.012-65)
3. Similar to 105.012-65 as much as possible - cal 1861 ok
4. With 2 differences: (1) red landing date similar to the 35th, and (2) case back showing astronauts & LM on the moon.
5. Limited to 1969 pieces in steel (do whatever you want with gold versions)
6. Keep it under 10K
7. Take my money ...

There will be one reference that uses a pretty amazing material that will be highly sought after and produced in a very limited quantity. I've already told them as soon as it's possible take my money haha

A 105.012 with a double step sapphire caseback and the hippocampus faintly etched on its surface 🙄

With that small a release, you will not be able to purchase one. This release will likely be worse than than the silver snoopy.

Indeed, 1969 pieces is more a number for any Gold versions... Take a look at the numbers of previous anniversaries, these vary between minimum 2000 and maximum 9999 time pieces 👍

You forgot to include a beaded or braided wrist bracelet made by and signed by Buzz Aldrin, to match his favorite one out of the dozens he can be seen wearing.

My chances of getting one dropped to 0.3% since the Denver OB is shutting down, and if there is a new OB the new salespeople and managers wont know me. The OB is being taken over by a Rolex Boutique, and Omega wasn't happy to share space with Patek and VC or JLC and many others in the main watch store.

For the most recent Apollo Moon Landing related LE models:
Apollo 11 45th - limited to 1969 units
Apollo 13 45th - 1970 units
Apollo 17 45th Tribute to Gene Cernan - 1972 units

So I am guessing 1969 for the 11 50th SS, but who knows.

I hope their current instagram posts are not a taste of things-to-come... 🤬
Aimed at the younger customers, not at the 55+ years old aficionados who, as kids, were fascinated by the Apollo missions

I would appreciate it if they use the same type of gliding adjustable clasp as in the 60th anniversary

Well if we're talking bracelet wishlist items: stretch links or GTFO

I spoke with the head product manager at Omega earlier this week. He was giving absolutely nothing up. I asked some general PM questions like how long it takes to release a new watch. He said if new movement it could be up to five years. If basic mod, like dial/hand change then about 1 year. And about 2 years if there are more design changes that just dial/hands.

I asked how long he had been working on the 50th. Hoping to get some insight. Got nothing.

He did offer to get me a tour of the factory in Biel and gave me some direction on how to get the extract for my Mark3 fixed. So very much looking forward to checking out the factory and museum in August.

Good attempt trying to get some info👍

Looking forward to a future report on your factory and museum tour!

Ref. the 50th I recall Raynald was interviewed recently at Basel 2018 by Wei Koh (see 11:05). During the interview it seemed they had not yet made a final decision on what was would effectively be chosen for the 50th LE(s). It seems likely that by March 2018 Omega already had several candidate mock-up designs already lined up with manufacturing cost and production details sorted out.

I would guess that they probably committed to a final LE design selection after Basel 2018. I imagine that several international Omega executives country/brand managers would have traveled to Basel and so Omega would have been able to get some additional feedback from them in terms of local market reception to the Speedy Tuesday, Speedy 60th and Apollo 17 LE, before making a final selection decision.

I was just wondering, what do you think of a case made of damascus steel (japanese style like the following knife) 🙄 ?

Keywords are Simplicity and Originality... stick to the timeless 1960s classic design
