Good morning!

Another important thing - if you will send the watch to Omega, please ask them (in writing) to not change the crown!!
The one you have is the correct one (A1, 24 tooth),
and they might want to replace yours to a service crown..

Thanks for the input hansaboy, I just now read your other thread about the various crowns and it was very informative!

I am inclined to let Omega go through with the service as they have been really good in their communications around the watch (a whole different story than what many others have had experience with it seems).

Thought I'd share the initial response from Omega Switzerland.
* After this I have got confirmation that they will leave the bezel untouched as well, as they suggested to change the bezel and ship me the original one back with the watch.

* The chrono second hand is unoriginal and they are going to replace this. And they are also trying to keep the others intact.

* Pushers will be replaced, anything I need to worry about regarding new parts here? Does service parts look the same as the original ones for 145.012?

Don’t think omega would accept this as I believe one of the requirements is to get the watch waterproof again. And this is up to OP if desired or not. However, it is important to make sure to get the crown back after service.

edit: just saw the response from Omega, my bad. Nice that they are now listening more to the owner.

Does anyone know whether the omega velcro which michael collins is seen wearing here is available at all? Was it sold commercially?

See the thread above, Omega factory has actually confirmed they will not touch the crown

I have seen a couple of Omega serviced Speedmasters and they have ended up with white lume. Is this what you desire for the watch?

Although technically not one of the "period correct" bracelets for this reference, you could also consider an Omega 1175 flat link bracelet with 640 end links. This is a very nice solidly constructed bracelet and they generally sell for a third to half of what you will pay for a 1039/516 and, in my opinion, they are of better quality. Here's mine on my 1969 Speedmaster Straight Writing.

I bought my 145.022-68 from the first owner and the watch came with a ref. 1116 band with 575 end links.
This would be an option IMHO

Cheers

Some of the Apollo astronauts wore Speedmaster on this JB Forstner mesh you can find NOS or used one pretty cheaply and wear it like an astronaut until you find right vintage Omega bracelet.
Its a vintage JB Champion, not the newer replica made by Fostner.
It comes with 19mm end links, but would be a legit solution for your watch.

If Omega will change the chrono hand, you will have a problem with the different lume they use nowadays...

This is very cool! Did you have dialogue with them on whether it will get back in stock?
Nope, just going off the reminder button.

Good point, what options do I have here? Since the hand is unoriginal already. Any chance of buying these original vintage?

No.. Do you have any references/images? Are you talking about all the markings on the dial or only on hands?

I know a very good restorer, who could change the hand, replacing the luminous to match the existing hands and, if necessary, repaint the hand to match the replaced hand with the hour, minute and sundial hands mounted.

By the way: the reference that you got "145.012-68" is VERY RARE!!!
"Normally" the ref 145.012 are from 67...
Wear in good health.

P.s.: I would never send an 321 Speedmaster to Omega for service, hahaha...

Here is mine 145.012-68

That is a beautiful watch! Did you have anything done with it such as repainting or similar?

The 1067 and 1035 aren’t correct for a 145012. They are very similar but they’re for 18-19mm lugs. Yours is 20mm and needs 1039 or 1116 to be period correct.

Also strap suggestions depend what country you’re in. I’m in the UK so unlikely to buy from places in the US due to shipping and customs
Are you sure the 1116 is period correct for the 145.012? I see a couple of sources on this forum saying it is, but elsewhere I cannot find this as correct at all. And if so, it would be with 633 end links? EDIT: I see now the watch chart says 575 end links for the 1116.

As an update for people following I have now reached out to SF and the response received was above expectations. I have asked Omega to return the watch and will proceed with SF.

Thank you everyone for all the good advice and tips!
