It’s been a real Canadian winter with a lot of snow.

The last week has been unusually warm, however, and snow has melted rapidly.

This morning, I walked to my shop (1 km) and saw something on the ground, near the sidewalk, about halfway into my trek.

I continued to walk, while my mind tried to dismiss what I had seen.

I turned around, and there it was…

It is not damaged or rusty. I am thinking that I may have lost it, but have not walked that way since fall.

And I am not missing a spring bar tool.

Oh well. Speedy Selfie!

I once found a watch in the middle of the wilderness. I took it with me, but it was totally trashed, and just some sort of no-name quartz watch, so I tossed it. I wish I had kept it, or at least taken a photo.

I found a 10-cent coin yesterday.

I once found a young woman’s wallet at a bus stop. I had to check it out for some form of ID. The things I found in that wallet! My my! I was able to get the wallet back to her.

I once found a cell phone on the ground, in a shopping centre parking lot. No sooner had I picked it up, than it started to ring. I answered it, and told the caller not to hang up. I told him I had just found the phone, and that I would leave it at the information desk in the mall. I’m fairly certain he’d have got his phone back.

In 2000, my spouse and I were in London, England, on a tour. She found a woman’s ring on the sidewalk. This ring was what we called a “week-end special”, years ago when I was in the jewellery business. Sterling silver setting, white zircon stone. She likely lost more than her ring, that week end! 🙁 I felt sorry for her! My wife kept the ring!

I found a watch while diving. It was a cheap Casio digital watch rated to 100m. It became my dive watch.

Here is the a picture of it posted in another thread. I was wrong, it was only rated to 50m.

I used to be an antiques dealer, specialising in clocks. I once bought a longcase clock at auction and found two pocket watches, one silver, one gold, wrapped up in the base.

So what was your solution to the problem?

I realized the value I bring to the table, reached into my bag of breadth and depth, found a place that was a better fit, and told my previous employer a polite “toodles”.
