Came across this $20 gold piece and was struck by the woman’s face.

It’s an amazing coin, as the price suggests.

In Gold We Trust.

That is an absolute beauty. Half a million dollars though?

The market will ultimately determine the price. And come the Apocalypse you can use it to attract marauders.

is that per-dozen price? 😁 she's a beauty - not a $550K beauty 😀

Wowzers... but having said that, there's more metal value in one of these than a Paul Newman!

Very nice coin. I saw the price of $549 and contemplated if it's something for me and then passed. Only after reading the comments did I realise that my own price assessment was off

I don’t think I’d want to own the Mona Lisa either, although I might really enjoy spending a day with her.

Another astonishing coin, ancient Rhodes. It used to be my avatar.

It all comes down to grade and rarity, you can find these pieces for a couple of thousand in avg grade. The one pictured is a very high grade.

Yeah boy!

A "frosty" MS67 with a PCGS grading? Not something that happens along with regularity.

I'm not likely to find one like it in my turnips.

That coin is probably one of the highest graded proofs in the entire series, which was minted for over 50 years. That's why it is priced at $500K+.

The successor coin is even prettier, IMO.

Sold for about half the price of the other one. But there are a lot more of these.

Nah... the Feds will have confiscated all the gold before we hit the hills.

Even 1933 the Feds didn't try to confiscate collector's coins.

I'm partial to the St Gauden's too. I got one of the recreations they minted a few years ago. Very pretty, but I don't care that much for the box and booklet that came with it. They don't add that much and make it not fit in the safe deposit box, yet if I ditch them I'll lose resale value. I might sell it and buy a pre-1933.
