I just finished reading this entire thread (when I actually need to be doing all sorts of other stuff, naturally). I have gotten an incredible education in watch movements thanks to this. So, to Patrick I say: Thank you for asking these questions. If you're a noob, then so am I, but far more ... And that's OK, because someday I won't be!

Another point of interest relevant to this thread.....

There have been quite a few companies that acquired movement manufacturers (as Rolex did), which then technically made them "in-house". Carl F. Bucherer bought Techniques Horlogères Appliquées SA in 2007, and Vacheron Constantin purchased Haut de Gamme in 1998.

I think you are learning, just learning more than you might have bargained for with the questions you are asking. No one here has refused to answer your questions that I have seen. We might make the odd comment that doesn't agree with you, but that is the nature of this forum, and maybe reading a bit more of it will show you that, as well as allow you to learn more about omegas. Think of it as a win-win! 😀

Cheers, Al
I will think of it as a win win. I need to read more before I post, there will be criticism but I need to adapt and get used to it.

I'm... Scared ::facepalm1::

Patrick, your post was ok. The thread has been a great thread. You're not responsible for any experience anyone has had before and I, for one, don't remember this particular topic discussed here in the months I've been around. I'm.not a member of WUS and never visit there so I don't know what the issues are although I can imagine but I don't think people should be scared to post or have to be overtly cautious as long as their post and intentions are genuine, which I believe yours where.

My opinion anyway.

This is one for members and Mr Archer in particular.

There has been a post by myself before regarding if my Omega Geneve is a redial. At first it had appeared it was a redial, then members had not been sure due to other examples on the net of geneve dials looking exactly like mine.

What do you think Mr Archer?

Below is a link to the previous thread where regarding my delema also stefan the other watchmaker on the forum initialy thought it was a redial. However, have sent him a link to the previous thread for him to look at.

https://omegaforums.net/threads/any-ideas.23649/

Also a link below to a similar watch sold by austin kaye, it is not stated as a redial. They always in their adverts state if a watch is a redial or not. It looks just like my dial.

Thank you

Thank you. These issues always arise between new and old members, whatever the hobby is. I had the same issue in the ham radio hobby. At the end of the day, once people get used to each other it is ok. They are frustrations on each side as long as you are passionate about what you talk out it is ok. Sometimes we will be abrupt with each other, it can go both ways.

Also remember that there's a teeny tiny bit of hazing happening too. 😉

Thank you that is informative.

Some of us cantankerous codgers are full of tidbits like that. 😜

Thank you. To be fair we can all be noobs at times, (in different ways) new and old member alike. We may agree and disagree with each other but we must be honest with each other.

Yes, it is. It's not hateful - it's a rite of passage. Despite the teasing and occasional jab, has any veteran (including myself, the King of Sarcasm) not answered your questions? I dare to say we've given you even more information than you could have hoped for.

If you survive me for your first handful of threads, we know you're worthy!

👍

I like sarcasm. Questions have been answered, much appreciated for that. You senior guys have a hell of a lot of knowledge. The newbie noobs are learning to get on with the highly knowledgeable veteran noobs as well. ☺

One day you'll be a veteran. I think you'd be very surprised at the horological résumés of some of the mods and members here - besides watchmakers, we have published authors, business owners, and the occasional employee of one of the brands. Most of the data packed in my skull came from doing press releases for half a dozen brands over several years, and I did hold one very cool job as a professional writer for a few months besides my "watches for dummies" series. (and I'm small potatoes compared to some of the others)

Buying vintage Omega should perhaps be left to people who know what they are doing and not novices.

My 1962 Seamaster is now in doubt as is the geneve. The Omega vintage site shows differences in my dial and there pic. My ref is 14759 -sc- 62 on case back. On the omega site you can only get pic for 14759 Ref. My dial has a hook S, there one has a smooth S also I have different hands.
