So Whats The Story Behind Your User Name and Avatar

My user name is one I took about 20 years ago when joining an IRC forum (internet relay chat). I had a 1990 Mustang 5.0 Liter that everyone on the forum knew me for. I took the "Stang", added "Go" and I liked the partial homonym with Ghost. The 9 comes from my birth day which has also been my lucky number as long as I can remember.

Avatar is my Explorer II 42mm, a gift my wife gave me about 6 months ago. She's normally very frugal, but agreed to go the the AD with me to check it out. When a "good deal" was offered, she agreed to buy it for me on the spot. I was blown away by her surprising willingness to splurge on me, and have worn it proudly ever since.
She was showing you how easy it is to buy shiny things (even if the beauty of the Explorer is that it is not shiny). 馃榾

I am the Yuengling Beer Guy from a 1940's advertisement.......At least that what I've been told by friends now and again for many years. So, I say to myself, "He's a classy guy, well dressed, likes beer (okay, really likes beer), probably wearing a nice watch on the other wrist." Sooooo.........sounds like me (especially the really likes beer part and the nice watch part that I've convinced myself he has) and with a little Photoshop help, my avatar is born. My user ID is a combination of my last name and some initials that also happen to match a state......CHEERS!

My username is my first initial and the first 8 letters of my last name, which formed my computer username when I went to college in 1989. My college friends still call me that these many years later.

My avatar is a pastel that's come down through the family from my great-grandparents and hangs in my living room. It wasn't until I was a teenager that i realized that the painting hanging in my grandparents' dining room wasn't of old cars, but rather of the cars that were current when it was made. D'oh!

My user name explains what I do for work.
The avatar is a little trickier. I wonder if anyone here knows what it is from, without any Google search trickery that is. It's been used in a few places around the web, but is found somewhere specific that could tell you something more about me. No cheating.

My username is the phonetic pronunciation of my initials.

My avatar is a cropped glamour shot of the current centerpiece of my collection.

Afraid I don't have nearly as good a story as some for my username or avatar.

Being at times wilfully perverse, when I ventured onto the internet via the Diablo forum in about 1997, I immediately decided that names such as "Skullsplitter the Bloodaxe" were all too common. So I registered as Mouse and have maintained a rodent persona since 馃槑

The avatar reflects my personality and is subject to change....

It's where I went to law school and the year I graduated. Avatar is JFK and RFK (a UVA law alum) visiting UVA's law school while Ted was a student.

User name is simple. ARkansas STate FAN
Avatar takes a little explaining.
Our new system president (great guy visit with him regularly) had some innovations he wanted to do and the good politicos running the state weren't so fond of his ideas.
Wanted a medical school, nope can't do it. OK fine, I'll lease this building on campus that we aren't using to a private medical school and they will give us a piece of the action.
Wanted one of the jucos in our system to be able to award bachelor's degrees. No, no, can't do that. OK fine, we will use the distance learning equipment we've installed there and enroll juniors and seniors in the main campus but they will take the classes at the juco campus and get their degree from AState Jonesboro.
Wanted to build a campus in Mexico, didn't even bother asking because the answer would be no. Used money from the foundation in partnership with local investors in Mexico. Come 2017 it will be the first US university teaching university level programs at American collegiate standards in English in Mexico. The area where it is located has a large multi-national presence and most middle and upper level jobs go to people with a US college degree, so they are bringing US college degrees to Mexico and it will be a key base for the school's study abroad programs.

The new attitude is to act like a pirate so I celebrate that.

Graduate of Kansas State University (known as KState) and am a competitive waterskier. Although not much the last two years as I have had a back injury that has kept me on the dock. Love to rip the frozen stuff as well!

My avatar is a pic of my first Omega, an SMPO from my wife for our wedding! Its the watch that opened the door, a gateway drug if you will.

I'll play.
Avatar: A pic of my son and I on one of the several white water rafting trips we have taken in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Name: I went through a nasty divorce 15 or so years ago. The divorce process lasted 2 years so to keep my sanity during that time, I purchased a used Suzuki Bandit 1200S and rode the wheels off of it and had a friend let me fly right seat with him in a CJ3 for a while. The divorce was not instigated by me so with false hopes I kept my wedding band. When two years past, the divorce was final and she was engaged to another guy, I faced reality and went to the pawn shop. As you can guess, a men's gold band is worth $20 so when the clerk told me that I told her politely that I'd go a different route. It had been raining a ton around that time and the river I passed over to go back home was nearly spilling over its' banks. Quickly I pulled over and in the light rain walked half way across the foot bridge over the roaring river. Faced the muddy river downstream, pulled off the wedding band, said to myself, "self, pull yer damn self up by your bootstraps and move forward", gave her a fling into the river and got my soggy ass back in the truck and went home. Lost too much capital in the divorce so my business went under but found a new path and found a peach of a girl 7 years ago to walk it with me. I have a good relationship with my son and he is doing well. The ex is divorced for the second time and I just chuckle. Life is good. 馃榾

Well said, and that applies to most of us almost all of the time. Tough to do in some situations (like yours) but glad you did and that it all worked out! Thanks for posting 馃榾

Mine was an easy one I went to see Event Horizon at the cinema when it first come out and was definately one to see on the big screen. In the opening credits it had a speedmaster spinning in zero gravity and it stuck in my mind. Not the best of films but it has Sam Neill who is a fantastic actor and the soundtrack was by the Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers who I like very much.

Wow it's been years since I've seen that, and the CGI hasn't aged very gracefully has it?

Pretty simple for me. First initial and last name. Avatar is me doing a pre-dive computer check before taking a class out on a California beach dive.

I just chose random word that people had hard time pronouncing, or figuring out what it means. As for the avatar. I googled "Omega" and this pic came up. Apparently it is some Hungarian band or something like that, and this is cover of one of their albums (or so I was told) i really should change that to something better.

My user name goes like: my Indian name given to me by my father, my french name given to me by my mother, the number refers to the culture around a particular demonized plant.

My avatar: just a funny meme about the whole Star Wars "Who shot first?" issue when they re-mastered A New Hope. 馃槣

I can't compare but I dont rate kidney stones, have passed 3 in the last 14 months (none in the last 12 months) and don't rate them al all
