This thread seems to be a little off the rails, but to me “high end” is about quality. And quality –being qualititative– cannot have hard and fast rules. And yes, this renders the whole excercise of finding those rules pointless, because it is.
Tony, I will ask you one question.
Do you consider Patek or AP quartz watches to be high end or were they just very expensive electronic fashion accessories of their day?

I agree with you mostly, but don't you think "high-end" is also relative? Does a Cartier quartz watch and a Philippe Dufour belong under the same guise as being "high-end"? And at least with the Swiss, they do have an industry standard of excellence, the Geneva Seal.
any conclusion that would bring a quartz Cartier and a Dufour into the same level is clearly flawed though (not saying that by asking that question that you were doing so by the way).

There is no reason whatsoever in my view why a battery powered movement would prevent a watch from being High End. To each his own.

I just had a meatloaf / ketchup on rye toasty sandwich for late lunch, it was YUMMY!
Sauerkraut goes great with fresh corned beef (still warm), and Russian dressing on toasty rye.
And I think you can also add melted Swiss cheese, I can't remember the name but that is the ultimate winter sambo!
