I was referring to the step on the back - maybe there was some confusion.
Yep it looks like I was the one confused. As you were.

With the way releases are going these days I'd say it's safe to say R.I.P hesalite 1957-2020.

Is this the first time Omega have produced a watch with an automaton "animated" case-back? I haven't ever seen anything in their lineup before which can do what this Snoopy is doing. It would possibly be worth it for that alone if it's a one of a kind product in their company history.

Hi all
Whilst I think it is an attractive watch and am happy that its not a LTD Edition so that all that want one can get one I really don't think its for me. I also don't see it coming anywhere near close to my DSOM Apollo 8 and am amazed it is so much more expensive than it what with it being a stainless steel watch even with the new movement and special case back. Compared to a fully Ceramic watch with a laser ablated movement on both sides and stellar lume as well as a lumed bezel and crown. But each to his/her own and I hope all that want one can get it.

Marc

Yes, Apollo 8 DSOM is a fantastic watch... both in concept and execution. The only thing I wish was a little better is that strap. You are right, the cost of production on that one is likely higher than this new Silver Snoopy. But, luxury watches are always priced by positioning and perception of interest. So I am not surprised it is marked at almost $10K USD. I think only people who really want one will buy one. Resellers are probably unregistering their interest today, which most of us can appreciate.

I'm loving how many Omega fanboys are not digging this watch......much like they complained about the last one. Makes it easier for me to get one. The fact that its not an LE has been the one constant heard since rumors of the watch first began swirling, months ago. The reason one would cancel their deposit is that they simply don't like the watch (which is fair).....to each their own.

Can't believe those pictures didn't get public yet - I've got them a good month ago.
Really?! Why didn’t you share them then? Or... am I missing something...?

And it just shows again how well Omega listens to its customers... I remember quite a few events where collectors (incl. myself) were questioning the amount of LEs released when discussing with Omega employees. Seems clearly a shift in product/ marketing strategy? First the NTTD, Tekton, this one, ...

Could also be a short-term measure to increase revenues ;-), however I doubt it as these models make little difference overall.

The animation on the back is certainly a novel feature, but this is no great automaton complication that Omega has developed. It is just using the arbors for the constant seconds hand and chrono minute hand to show motion. It's been done many times before, Franck Muller used to make a double faced chronometer. The clever part is developing the moon, stars and earth images in attractive appearance and proportions to allow the Snoopy command module to move among the earth and moon images. Omega did a good job with this feature and will nudge more than a few buyers to go through with the purchase. It's novel, it's cute, it will help sell watches.

I know its not an LE but pricing on this watch should be compared to the previous Silver Snoopy Award, which sold for $7500. That means there's an approximately 27% increase at $2100 more. I'm sure Omega took that into consideration when pricing the watch.

I like it a lot. The price in Japan is ¥1,133,000 so creeping over that million mark is a bit painful but it's in the range we all expected. For me, I few very few watches with blue so this is refreshing. The dial is nice and clean while still celebrating the silver snoopy.
Loved the casebook on first view and now I'have watched the video, that is cool and stands out against my steel-backed watches. Although, the casebook might be a little secret between me and Snoopy.

I think it's going to look very handsome on the wrist and will compliment my Tintin

i thought the steel ed white was pricing insanity for Swatch. . this is even more so. non-LE no bracelet 10k euros ?

huh??

i know everyone has covid-brain but on what planet are regular production speedmasters now priced with rolex GMT ?

Well one in which Swatch wants to get more money? A Speedmaster is a significantly more complex watch - and more watch in general - than a Rolex GMT. Don't get me wrong, I like the GMT (or at least l like older ones - the new Chunky Monkey Rolex cases I think are ugly) - but a Speedmaster is more watch, and priced less.

I've been staring at this piece for some time now... 🥰

Considering some of the brew-har-har I read from when 45th was launched, I believe Omega have knocked out a worthwhile Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary piece, a cartoon Snoopy, the pin design celebrating the 50th anniversary on the dial however the've seriously up'd the game with the case back which seems to have taken most of us by surprise. I really think it's a great celebration piece of receiving the highest award possible from NASA for their contribution in some of the greatest technical achievements in modern history - why not celebrate it!

I already own an A11 50th so in theory, could I switch the bracelet between them...? I'll be asking my AD if this is feasible tomorrow 😎. I'll also be checking, depending how many the're allocated and it not being an LE, if a purchase would be viable to organise later, around my B'day next April 😁

It would certainly be a keeper but, regarding residues... we all know we are dealing in luxury items, all I can hope is that it could hold its own and I'd be more than happy.

'Profit' vs. 'Value' = a concern for the next generation 😉

I'm also debating with myself 🤨 in going down the Submariner route for my 50th in few short years due to having a divers itch, currently starting at ~£6.5k for the no-date. Over £8k 😲 on a single watch does have me thinking though, not on if I want one but do I want one enough at this price point, I'm sure I'm not the only one.

i love this idea that all a watch company has to do to "be Rolex" is raise prices

it hasn't worked for a single other watch brand I can think and it ain't gonna work for Omega / Swatch

And at some point, it will stop working for Rolex too. I hate to be the one to point this out, but Daytonas in general are just ugly, especially compared to numerous other watches. And I mean this for both vintage and modern. When you can buy 3 or 4 (or more) excellent vintage chronos that are better looking and far rarer than your standard 1970's Daytona, why on earth wouldn't you? The pendulum will eventually swing the other way.

Just not in the foreseeable future. It's always a wish for Rolex bashers that the perceived house of cards will soon come tumbling down, but it never does.

I also think the modern Daytona is ugly but the vintage ones have a great look to them (pre-Zenith models). However, I agree I would rather buy several watches for the price of one.

However, I don't think the price is dropping anytime soon and if it does I think it will hit the rest of the watch collecting universe hard. Rolex is the bellwether that the rest of the vintage market follows.

all you have to do is look at a chart of Swatch stock the last 10 years to realize. . they have no idea how to create a premium brand or grow profits. i believe it is the worst performing luxury brand stock in the world over 10 years.

I'm sure I'll be crucified for this but the caseback animation reminds of the ballpoint pen I stole from a Las Vegas gift shop when I was on a family vacation trip at age 12. You turned the pen upside down and the showgirls' clothes slid away...

this gets my vote for most humorous post on OF today.

yeah. . daytona. . complete rubbish. one day all those Daytona owners will wake up and realize what they really wanted was a Speedmaster all along! or a Panerai!

God all these Rolex brigaders pea green with envy, what Omega going all out for their clients and giving them a beautiful watch with an upgraded movement and full on mechanically animated caseback too much for their 1mm increase in case diameter subs.

so they go and attack Swatch! lol.
