The worst part of this here is that the OB in Sydney is asking for a 20% deposit for delivery in June-ish 2021, and if you don't like the watch, the 10% is not refundable... I mean c'mon, if you have a display watch, then sure, don't refund the deposit. But this is a bit ridiculous I think

If I were to buy another Moonwatch, it's either the Apollo 8 or this one. But, I should save my money for the ceramic Daytona that I've been waiting for for years...

get what you really want or you’ll only get it as well later but assume your talking grey Daytona :/

nothing in consumer law here disallowing non-refundable deposits. they do label it as 'lay-by' though, so its less a 'deposit' and more of a purcahse

my ob required 20% non-refundable, but transferable to another purchase if i dont like the snoopy when i see it

So there are doubts already about the premium on this watch in grey market after deliveries begin in earnest...

Not in my mind there aren't, the Greys will pump the Snoopy fever to the max initially. Longer term though I see this sinking to something like RRP + 20 %

If that being the most probable scenario, the AD or OB would not have said deducting 10% if there would be reasonable chance of having immediate next customer at RRP... Just my 2 cents.

That was my initial thinking as well, but then I remembered that some people do business differently and don't always consider long-term relationships. They could happily take your 10% AND still sell it to the next immediate customer.

I think this practice is not legal in some Countries.

Definitely not legal in the UK. Unless it's a bespoke or customised item, 100% of any deposit is refundable until the item has been shipped. Then you have Distance Selling Regulations on top of that if it's purchased sight unseen (remotely).

A quick Google on Australian Consumer Law indicates that non-refundable deposits are legal as long as it's not "unreasonable", which of course is very open to interpretation. I studied Contract Law decades ago in Australia but never delved into the Consumer side.

I have a deposit with my OB, but I’m still on the fence. When Snoopy 2 came out in 2015, I really liked it. But because the Apollo 11 mission has personal meaning to me, I preferred to wait on the A11 50th anniversary release that was to come out a few years later in 2019. That said, if the Snoopy 2 and 3 releases were flipped – where this blue panda design instead came out in 2015 and the white dial design was released now – I’d definitely be a buyer today. The blue Snoopy 3 is nice, but aesthetically the pics doesn’t speak to me like the Snoopy 2. I wear my watches and don’t treat them like “safe queens”, so it boils down to whether I see myself wearing this watch vs. what I already own. I guess I’ll find out when I get the OB call to see it in the flesh.

I will only pay close to MSRP for a ceramic Daytona - not buy a grey Daytona at 2x the MSRP. So, I'll keep waiting if I have to.

In 2017 I still had hopes of getting the Daytona from my AD, but I found a grey market white dial ceramic Daytona for $17,000 and asked about a trade. I offered to trade my GSOTM + my 42mm Polar Explorer II in stickers + $2K cash, so he could sell my trades to pay off his costs on the Daytona and still make about $2000 profit. But he wanted $5K cash added, making my two trades worth about $6K each!

Maybe I should have, seeing where prices have gone since then, but I said NO F'n WAY because I could enjoy the 2 watches, and also buy a 3rd with the left over money. At the time I wanted to hold out for a lower Daytona price, but I never imagined them eventually hitting $25K. So, the market made the decision for me - no Daytona.

I find this watch amusing, but wouldn’t buy it myself.
That's the correct word...
Amusing ... like in gimmick or gadget ... 🙄
